Or as we used to call it as kids: weeds.

Tesco's trick has been to keep selling the same old low-quality shit but
market its way to having broad appeal. I'd rather shop at fucking
    Morrisons.

Have you tried the rooster ones? A red Irish cultivar that is heavily
promoted around here in supermarkets. They have a floury texture which
    makes good mash.

The variety most commonly grown here, in the Hereford/Mon border is estima.
I buy 20kg bags for £4 from a local merchant. They roast & bake well. If
you boil them they will break up so I steam them before mashing.

Good god, Wales is just the Irish bogs.
I eat spuds at home maybe three or four time a year.

Indeed. Even Champ could grow it. There are plants sprouting up between
paving near the greenhouse, but the young tender stuff grown under glass
(not a heated greenhouse) is better in a salad. If you are talking
weeds, sorrel is also very tasty. Then, of course, there are the nettle
    recipes.

I buy them when Linda's having one of her charity-bake days.
I'm not wasting any more money than I have to on her colleagues.

A newsgroup largely frequented by professional, home-owning, middle-
aged, white Englishmen, most of whom ride motorcycles for fun rather
than as a cheap way of getting t't pit, and you're surprised that it's
    a bit middle class?

I don't mind a bit, but then I'm aspirational working class scum.

    I haven't seen roosters hereabouts.
So no gratin, tartiflette, frites, game fries, creamed, ...?

Try being married to someone that refuses to eat Smash and would
sooner peel and boil spuds if she wants mash.

I know she admits to being "awkward" about food but refusing to eat
Smash is taking things a bit too far.
