    Big Gay Traillies.....

What are they like for a shortarse - only have 29 inch inside leg, so
they look a little on the tall side.

I manage okish with Triumph Tigers and my inside leg is an inch shorter
than yours, They can be lowered slightly if needed. I got on OK with Mr
Ferrier's R1150GS, aside from the fact I hated the feel of it the seat
    height was fine.

Any idea if the RS cast alloy wheels are a different size to the spoked
    GS wheels?

The one I'm looking at has had the spokes junked in favour of alloys.

You know the seat has two heights?

Not a clue. You'd have to ask someone who likes BMWs that question.

    Seem to be. R1100RS is 3.50 x 17 Front and 4.50 x 18 Rear. The GS is 2,50 x
19 Front and 4,00 x 17 Rear according to my manual. Things may have changed
since it (the manual) was nicked and put on a Russian website

17" IIRC. I'm not sure at the moment if they are actually different
sizes compared to the GS ones.
    Ewww.

Interesting - that means the front is lower by an inch, whilst the rear
    is half an inch lower.

    Plus, the seat is adjustable.

The issue, though, is that it comes up on HPI as a Cat C, but allegedly
has been inspected by a BMW main dealer.

Only just down the road and it's priced accordingly. Might be worth
    looking at.

It's a common way to supermoto a GS.
    High - Higher - Lofty :)
Talk to the dealer after trying to find out why it was cat C'd?
Might well be, but might be a total shed.

I quite like it - and it gives you a better choice of tyres.

    http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15702 has everything you want
to know about fitting alloys to an RGS. Ignore the prices as the thread is
from 2004. There seem to be a few technical issues to overcome so beware of
bodges, and I'd want to know the owner's motivation for buggering about
with the bike. I've just seen your other post that explains. Run away
unless the owner is willing to let Mike at Cardiff Motorrad do a full
survey for you prior to purchase.

I'm not planning on going anywhere this weekend. You're welcome to take the
thing out for a spin or just sit on it in the garage and go brruh, brruh. I
still haven't ridden it since the summer due to wonky legness. It is taxed
& MOT'd & I assume the CN policy on the Ducati has CIHAGM.

You can get a wide range of road only tyres for the R-GS now. The R1200GS
is available with OE alloy wheels. Dunlop, Bridgestone, Michelin, Avon &
Contis are available. I have the Road Attacks on mine, which you liked on
    the VFR.

Dealer is no longer there - was Ryland's combined car and bike showroom
    in Cardiff.

But the seller has a report from the dealer - I've asked him if he can
    scan it for me.
Looks nice in the pics and the mileage is low for one of those. Price is
very attractive and it's just down the road, so trying to organise
    looking at it tomorrow.

The early R1150GS Adventures don't, they have it fixed in the upper
    position

Cat C bikes don't need an inspection when going back on the road, only
    cars do.

He reckons it was inspected by the main dealer, and has the paperwork to
back this up. Doesn't really matter if it's a legal requirement, I
assume the person who rebuilt it wanted some peace of mind.

We'll see what he comes back with.

Good idea. I take it you wouldn't trust an inspection report from
    Ryland's, then?
Sounds like a plan, if I don't get a deal on the K1100LT at Bristol
    Motorad.

I'm in 2 minds - love the looks of the GS, but the LT is a better
touring bike and more complimentary to the Ducati, IYSWIM.
