I'm off to the Isle of Manin a few mins, flying out of Staverton
International Airport [1], to drink beer in the Traf and watch my
mates thrash round Jurby Airfield for four hours.

    Be good while I'm gone.

I asked him a very similar question in the pub last night - I said
could he get 170 reliable street bhp from a 02 R1. He said yes. I
then said - "..and would it cost less than £3k?" and he replied "Easy
    - no problem".

I'll be coming over with a van in the winter to collect KwackZilla, so
you could lob your bike in and deliver it to him, if you fancy.

I would say can you ask him what he could do to a 955 Tiger, but I
suspect he'd laugh himself into a coronary.

    heh - he might :)

Keef has just bought a T595, which he is going to get Slick to set up
on the dyno, but I don't think he's got any engine work planned.

Mind you, it's amazing what can be achieved with some head work (flow
and skim), a power commander and pipe and some careful set up work on
    the dyno.

What year is your bike? I'll ask him if he's ever done anything with
those engines before. I assume the engine is the same as the
    roadster?

It's an '03, & no, lots of different bits in the engine. A 955 Daytona
engine swap would be the way to go, but that failed miserably when I
sent it off to be done as they couldn't make a Daytona airbox fit no
matter what they did. I sort of lost interest at that point, especially
as they had the bike for fucking months.

Isn't a Tune-Boy a better way of dealing with the ECU on a Triumph than
    a Power Commander?

Not sure if the Tune-Boy can use the dyno's loopback system, but it
does allow a lot more tweaking than a Power Commander.

Trouble is you're talking a huge amount of work for something that
could be done far more easily by just sticking a Daytona engine,
injectors & igniter in - if only a decent airbox could be sorted out. I
meet keep an eye out for a crashed Daytona (the 147bhp one) & give it a
go - or I might not. Procrastination rules.

Would a cam swap get you part way there? I can't imagine the bottom

It could, but it would cripple the engine. I think a Daytona or custom
petrol tank would be the way to go, leaving room for the Daytona airbox.

The only people who can dyno an engine not in the bike are the likes
of HRC. To be set up properly, you need the whole bike there.

Also, to answer your other question - a power commander (or
equivalent) is essential for tuning an injected bike. It's the
mechanism for adjusting the fuel the engine gets - where in the old
days you changed jets and needles, you now change the map. The beauty
is the precision with which it can be done - a well set up power-
commander'd bike has throttle reponse to die for.

Well, the Endurance race was cancelled due to the weather, so I had to
make up for it with the drinking. Think I managed it - got to bed at
1am, with the alarm going off at 5:50am for a 6am taxi to the airport.

And **** me, today was not a day to fly in a small aircraft. The
Dornier 228 [1] trundled down the runaway at a small angle to its
direction of travel, and such was the head wind it took off after
about 100 feet. When then got rattled like peas in a tin can for 10
minutes while we climbed through the weather - you had to have your
seatbelt on in order to stay in your seat. You can imagine what that
    felt like with a hangover.

Once above the cloud it wasn't too bad, but we only had 30 mins of
that before starting the descent to Staverton International Airport.
This involved 20 mins of severe buffeting, with nothing to be seen out
of any of the windows but cloud. Finally dropping out of the bottom
of the cloud at about 1500' it became apparent that the little
aircraft was being blown all over the fucking sky - the pilot was
definitely earning her money today keeping it pointed at the runaway.

The actual landing wasn't *too* dramatic, in comparison, but I was
really *really* glad to be on the ground. As was my stomach. I
usually have not the slightest qualm about flying, but nothing about
    today's flight was remotely pleasant.

Could have been worse, tho, I guess - I could have been on the ferry!

    Even worse!
Did it have a loo on-board? The one I caught from Manc did not, which
was a bit of a shocker. It was a lady pilot though.

Flybe put a new jet on the Belfast flight yesterday and I was ever so
glad. Again it rotated incredibly quickly and climbed on full power at
around 45deg to get through the utterly awful wind buffeting PDQ. It
landed at the steepest angle of attack one could imagine, they must have
castor wheels on the tail. All quite unsettling.

nah, it's only a 19 seater twin prop - definitely no room for a loo.
heh. I was gritting my teeth and willing the pilot to descend faster
    this morning.

I've been at Heysham power station for the last 6 weeks or so and
could have told you on Saturday the race would be cancelled. Today was
certainly a bit on the gusty side and the rain alternated between
drizzle and torrential. What did I say in a different thread about the
    NW being a wasteland?
