    Fowler's in Bristol have just told me that Mr Honda's solution to the
    unidentified problem with the ABS is to start changing parts until it
    works again. This could cost up to two grand. Anyone got thoughts on
    options?

    Start off by going to a decent dealer.

    What's the problem now?

    If he's having trouble with a Honda he's not got much chance with any
    of the lesser marques has he?

    Tell Fowlers to stuff it.

    D'ya want a direct e-mail for someone to hassle at Honda UK?

    Heh...

    I thought that would get you smiling...

    Especially as you know I'm right.

    Sell it to Timo!

    It'll give him a head start ;-)

    The ABS/TCS lights started flashing which means `go to your dealer'
    according to the manual. I did that and it seems the rear sensor is
    playing up but they can't find a problem and the controller is
    refusing to talk to their computer. They spoke to Honda and Honda said
    follow this sequence:

    -change the rear sensor (180 odd quid);
    -change the front sensor (likewise);
    -change the controller (1200 squids).

    Stop when you change something and it works.

    Oh go on. I normally prefer paper and ink for my vendettas, but
    electric postage might be handy this time.

    Nobody's mentioned that option and I doubt they ever will.

    As you are worrying about the cost I assume you are outside the 2 year
    warranty period.

    I would check all of the connections to the components you list. Follow the
    sensor wires to where they disappear into the main loom. You'll probably
    find a connector. Check the contacts for corrosion.

    Do you know anyone with a Pan? Can you borrow a sensor to plug into the
    circuit to see if the fault disappears?

    I was thinking that but I want to make sure that the ABS is genuinely
    disabled. I don't want it starting up when I don't want it.

    Bear emerged from their own little world to say
    Not something to concern a Pan rider but if you took a R-GS off road, and
    many do, you would want to turn off the ABS for the same reasons as driving
    in snow.
