"There's a boy across the river, with a bottom like a peach,
    But, alas, I cannot swim."

(Old Pathan ribald song, quoted by James Morris in his Imperial
    Trilogy)

    YM Jan Morris[1]?

It was also quoted some time earlier by William Burroughs, IIRC in The Wild
Boys, and possibly other places too.

  6. Apparently it used to be 100% private and costalot. Now it's govt
    supported.

Big Bruvver said it was the only independent uni whose degrees were
    properly recognised.

So it's a bit like one of the Polytechnic offshoots, yes.

  7. No, because the Pax Britannica trilogy was authored as James Morris.

But yes, they are one and the same.

I thought I'd seen it quoted within one of Canteloube's Songs of the
Auvergne, but can't find it atm.

Thank you - but I thought there was another one closer. Never mind,
    old age again.

  12. Formally know as Buckinghamshire college of further education. Then they
affiliated with Brunel University, and now I haven't got a clue what
    they call themselves.

It was shit when I went there, hence I spent most of my time in The
White Horse, as I'm sure your lad will just as soon as he discovers it.
