Teenagers aren't necessarily stupid but they're not risk aware. At
that age you're immortal and seem to still lack the reasoning process
that can follow a logical sequence of events. I know I did things then
that I wouldn't now because I am much more aware of what could go
wrong.

It doesn't happen often, but Hog gets my vote. Pretty soon we will
have logos etched onto the pavement

I'd do it for my fucking dog, let alone my boy-chic. In fact I *did* do it
for my dog, although there were no pump tubes for him to get stuck in, just
a freezing cold reservoir. The **** was swimming up as I was swimming down
looking for him. The bastard.

The thing is, I'd do it again.

No need to answer really because I'm 100% confident you would have
done which brings me back to the point that the parents should have
done more and anyone taking a cheap shot about teenagers being thick
was either the kid who sat at home playing scrabble with their parents
or just didn't want to be a part of the growing up process.

Risk taking is currently taking a hit from "The Educators" too. When
questions are on R4 about whether or not kids should be allowed to climb
trees, things have really taken a bad direction.

I've been involved in trying to get someone out of the water when they
were drowning (1) and it's an all round shit situation where no matter
what you know you've done, if you fail you feel really crap about it.

(1) I was rowing (2) on the river in Bedford when I saw someone
struggling in the water. By the time I'd got the boat to the side and
went in it was too late and he drowned. The coroner got a moody on
with me because I failed to turn up at the inquest (3) where the
victims family wanted to thank me for going into the river and when I
was awarded a medal of some kind for having a go I didn't turn up to
collect it because the bloke died. It really isn't somewhere you want
to be putting yourself.

making the boat safe against the bank before going in and helping him?
In my defence he was a pissed up paddy and probably not worth saving
