I have just this minute taken my prototype date and walnut cake out of
    the oven. It looks odd.

Absolutely out of the question. I would not dream of letting you
anywhere near it until I was satisfied it met my exacting standards and
a major part of those standards are that it be so scrummy as to not
survive more than 24hrs out of the oven.

Are you coming to the annual ukrm Beginning of Summer Meet, I can take
    one to there?

I intend to. I'll swap you a ride on the uber-beak for one.

<obcakes> I have just tasted it and it isn't bad, the texture needs a
bit of work but it is close enough that you wouldn't notice. Very, very
very, sweet. The outside is like one of them crunchy bar things but
    with flavour, is that right?

More walnuts in the next one I think.

My mum used to bake it in a greaseproof paper lined tin. A small bread loaf
tin I suppose. Only the top was crispy.
She used packets of Walworths chopped dates & walnuts. Dates were very
    sugary IIRC.

Properly baked cakes are always baked in a paper lined tin, there is no
    other way.

<fx: goes out to kitchen for another slice>
