Went through Wootton Bassett last night on the way to Weymouth. There's
an Esso & a Total garage within a few hundred yards of each other.
Unleaded is 138.9 at the Esso, 131.9 at the Total. Don't think I've
ever seen such a difference in the same town, let alone the same short
stretch of road. WTF is going on?

    esso being cunts as usual?

more likely that garage gets a lot of company drivers using fuel cards, who
dont give a **** about the price as they are not paying it, they just look
out for a garage that takes their card, or the one that gives them the best
    'rewards' for buying fuel there.

I hear you. On of the prices could be for their Unleaded Exellium,
premium, totalium, etc. whereas the other station only sells Unleaded
    Lowgradium?

.... and what is it with "Unleaded confusium" or however each brands
their petrol. Whatever happend to 2* 4* or simply quoting RON values?

I thought all the supermarkets sold "unleaded" and "Diesel", and with
a 500 mile tank range in my car the rest can **** off. [1]

[1] The bike is for fun, therefore petrol just costs "some money"

I've been using the A419 a great deal in recent months. There's a point
about 10 miles north of M4 where there are petrol stations on either
side of the road. Northbound is always 5-6p cheaper than southbound.
They probably get away with it because it's the last fuel before the
    motorway.

Folk are still using the Esso, so there's no incentive for them to
change. There's a full 15p a litre diff between there and Cirencester Tesco.

Oh I remember, Esso have that nice new car wash to pay for

It's not unusual here to see prices differ by $0.20 in stations across
    the road from each other.
BTW, fuel prices here have gone up >33% in the last year. 12 times in
    the last 14 days.

I think my dad still has the glasses I accumulated when I drove a 7.5
    tonne truck for a living.

Whatever happened to Esso glasses then ? :)

with my 600 mile range lasting 1 week at best and fill ups costing twice
as much as I've paid for whole cars the cost of commuting has got rather
    daft.

add in childcare at ~ 700 a month and teh 30 quid to fill the bike isn't
    a great issue

sat here with my favourite whiskey glass one in my hand right now. its 25
years old so not bad value even at teh 18 quids worth of fuel you had to
    buy to get one.)

I'm expected to try to find a petrol station that takes the skanky fuel
cards we use because we get a discount but I refuse to deviate from my
route so if it costs more then suck it in and deal with it.

You can get better whiskey glasses that scented candles came in.

I remember that from the fuel card days, but thankfully most garages
took the version I had.. Nowadays I just put down the mileage, and get
whatever the prevailing HMRC fuel rate is back as an expenses
payment.. something like 12p a mile currently for a 2.0 diesel, which
    covers the cost.

All depends if it was the glass that your late father drank his whiskey
in for 11 years before you took it on, glass is glass is glass, where it
came from is more important IMHO, I'll look after it and pass it to my
son for his whiskey when I croak. Stuff doesn't have to be valuable to
    mean things you know!

I am, a simple, esso freebie that has lasted 25 years and seen 2
    generations so far.

it dont need to be fancy to be valuable on a sentimental level

Expensive glasses aren't worth the hassle anyway - V's bought me two
sets of crystal tumblers as part of my drug-taking paraphernalia, one of
which was gradually demolished and the other sits in a box untouched.

I stick to harvested pint glasses and 50p Ikea specials.
