Petrol tanks (again...)

So, roughly how many arms and legs will I need to pay to a breaker to
get a replacement petrol tank for 13-year-old bike?

And how many more limbs will he want for one whose underneath doesn't
    resemble a sieve?

(Note to self: if your wife tends to leave her bike standing for long
periods of time, make sure it's got a decent amount of fuel in the tank.
    Pah.)

What bike are we talking about? Tanks for bikes as young as 13 years
old are unlikely to be rotten, IMHO. In fact, 13 years is an ideal age
for sourcing a used tank - it's not new enough to be really pricey, and
it's not old enough to be counted as an unobtainable classic part.

You do indeed. A black GSX600F-P, to be precise.

As Pip said, a GSX600F. What sort of ballpark are we looking at here?

On a side note: there are very few people on here that could use the
phrase "bikes as young as 13 years old" and get away with it. This isn't
    ukrmc, you know...

I'd be very surprised if it was more than £50 for a decent one.

    <Checks Ebay completed auctions>

Blimey. £8.50 for a sound one that just needs repainting. There you
    go, then. Cheap!

Yeah, I'd watched those auctions come and go, and at the time the one we
had wasn't leaking... I knew I should have just bought them anyway.

I'll do a parts search, and see if there are any breakers who aren't
taking the piss. Failing that, it's a patient wait for another one to
    come up on eBay.

    Yes, it would.
Perhaps, but I'll need more petrol than that to do the planned fiddling
with carbs. And I'm not sure that it'd pass an MOT without a petrol
tank, either; and without an MOT, we're not going to be able to flog the
damned thing for a reasonable amount of money.

I have got bits off Sandy Bike spares, Sandy, Beds.
they were very helpfull when I was looking for a
rear master cylinder that fitted my CB450dx SOB (actually from a cbr1000!!)
very quick delivery reasonable prices (compared what I had been quoted from
other breakers!!) and they had a GSXF600 a couple of months ago, I got bits
    for a mates from them.

Ta. I'll give them a separate call when I do the parts search.

I normally use a couple of the free online parts search services, which
I've had good results from in the past.
