Petrol tap

    Buggrit! (to quote Terry Pratchett).

I've just snapped the outlet pipe off the petrol tap on the R80, trying
to get the LH-threaded nut off the top. Boxers have a strange
arrangement - RH thread on tank, LH thread on tap, and a weird cadmium
plated (I think) LH/RH nut to join the two.

Anyway, it's had it, so the service kit won't be needed now :(

I bought a new tap for the LHS (couldn't get that one apart to service
it at all), and the strainer gauze on the new one came with an
aluminium ring at the bottom - I guess the RH replacement will too.

    So two questions:

    - what should I put on the threads to prevent them gumming up again
(aly-to-aly for the tap itself and aly to cadmium-plated steel for
    tap-to-tank)?

    - The aluminium ring is news to me. So, should the fibre washer go next
to the tank or the tap:

    [tank][washer][ring of strainer][tap]
    or
    [tank][ring of strainer][washer][tap]

I'll evidently get the thing running again just as this good weather
    ends :(

    Regards,

    Simonm.

Not that unusual, BMW, Guzzi and MZ use that arrangement (Hmm, I see a
    European theme here)
Copaslip or loctite (not only does it stop things vibrating loose, it
    helps prevent corrosion)
