PGM-FI Malfunction

  1. OK, I was riding home, and my FI light on my instrumentation panel lit
up, and stayed on for the remainder of the trip. Looking through my
book, it says it indicates a fault in the Programmed Fuel Injection
system, and says that it should be taken to a Honda dealer as soon as
    possible.

Exactly how bad is it? I was going to put my bike in for a service
Wednesday, but have three trips (90km round each) before then I'm
supposed to do for work. Is it severe enough that I shouldn't ride it
at all, or should it be OK until then?

  2. OK, I did some snooping, and the 'internets' said that you turn the
bike on, and it'll flash long and short to indicate what kind of
error. It makes 8 rapid flashes, pauses, and repeats.

According to the service manual PDF I appropriated, that indicates

    Causes
    · Loose or poor contact on TP sensor
    - Open or short circuit in TP sensor wire (Simulate using numerica l
    - Faulty TP sensor values

    Symptoms
    · Poor engine response when a connector operating the throttle quickly
(Simulate using numerical values; Throttle opens 0')

So again, how bad is this? I really need the work, but if it's going
to kill the bike, I don't really have much choice.

Doubt it's going to cause grief.
