  2. Christ. what amuses me most is the anti-theft loop on the Tenere.

    (1) As if anyone would try

    (2) As if anyone would get beyond the site before it broke down.

They wouldn't know about the charging.
But that would still have left me walking to the top of the road.

Clearly the novelty hadn't worn off by then. He wasn't smiling quite
so much when he broke down the next time.

I'd just like to comment that apart from a broken clutch cable both
BMW K series bikes got there and back with little drama. again.

Nothing worse than being stranded by something when you know *exactly*
what the fault is and that it should have been fixed months previously.
I have to admit to having a bit of a frog in my throat seeing my old
Beemer make it to the Elefant a second time.

Never mind that - tell us about the snow claws.
    Worth the dosh?

Don't forget that the fuckers had charged me for 'fixing' it 4 days
    earlier.
Heh, my old beemer made it there twice without breaking down but the
Yam broke down twice in one trip. I might take the 10R one year.

    Yes.

For the 300 metres that mattered, it was worth it. Just a nice gentle
bimble up the hill, backend staying steady. Took longer getting my
gloves tucked into the storm cuffs than it took to take the claws off
    when the road was clear.

Did you have a second cable taped in place with the original?

No. Had to find a BMW shop to buy the cable from; it was Simon's K75
    that failed.

Not a major issue to change, I didn't carry spare cables on my bike
since I'd replaced the cable prior to last year's elefantentreffen...
and I left in a hurry so didn't pack the full spares kit I should have.

My spares kit consists of the spare fuses the bike came with from new.

Proper bikes don't have glass fuses

Are you claiming that the 400/4 is not a proper bike ?

Good point - that's one of those things that bugs me, like calling the
British national flag a 'Union Jack'
