work from home day today; just picked it up from post office.

too bright to watch it now on the projector, so will do so tonight when the
keen-on-a-scooter-to-start-with missus is home. I'm looking forward to see
    how good it is!

I never watch VHS anymore, DVDs are certainly all the rave. I've got a
pretty decent VHS player which functions as TV tuner for the home theatre
system, but would certainly have preferred if they'd sent a DVD. Much easier
    to lend around too.

How do you tape.. err.. record stuff to watch later? Cut DVD's?

    Theo
3 VCR's but only two are working, 1 DVD, thinking about a projector
but prices are still falling too fast. Sony now has a 1500 Lumens unit
    that wholesales for $2300.

Yay! My own old relatively cheap Sharp projector of 1998 is still hanging
on. I'll buy a new one when the bulb goes - no use putting any more money
into it when new and much better projectors are coming down like this, so
I'm crossing my fingers it'll do another year.

Watched the first half of the film whilst having lunch (on the 14" TV...).
Looks pretty good, but I'm not sure if I agree with their take on using both
rear and front brake. For normal use, well yeah, I always get the best
_really hard_ [to the point of doing a stoppy] braking out of concentrating
fully on the front and doing like a 'pushup' against the weight transfer to
transfer as much weight back as possible. I seem to lock up the rear way too
easily if I try to combine. I guess that could be just me, or the CBR250RR,
but others have been saying the same.

It is best to use both brakes. You certainly should practice emergency
stops but should try to ride in a manner so you never have to do one.
I tend to use the foot brake only, but it's a Guzzi.

Ok, I guess I mean for emergency stops. I find that if I train myself to use
one style of stopping mainly, that's the one I'm more inclined to use if I
have to react so quickly I don't have any time to think about it. E.g. those
htf did I avoid that moments.

That's why I'm not hugely in favour of using the back brake for anything
    above 15-20kphs.

Agree on manner of riding. However manner of riding will never be able fully
to protect you from idiots pulling out in front of you without indicating &
    looking etc.

And having said all that, personally I'm more in favour of adding throttle
and steering out of a situation. But if it can't be avoided, emergency stop
is the go - one way or another.

I think you missed the Guzzi bit. Guzzis have linked brakes. The foot
peadl gives you 75% front, 25% rear brake.
I believe that is a major fallacy. Brakes will always reduce the
possible impact. More throttle will likely kill you faster. Throttle
most likely got into the 'situation', more will make it worse.

Now I'm going to get a whole lot of stories about "I knew I was in
trouble so I backed it into the corner and smoked it out".

{Blush} Thanks for making me a more informed man. :) That's a pretty sweet
system for your everyday riding. So I take it front gives you like 95% front
and 5% back? Is this pretty similar to the VFR?

Revise to "slight throttle". Bike corners better under slight throttle. It
is easier to get to the gap, if there is one, then.
Dunno about that. I'm just trying to always look for/at the gap.

Having said all that, the most important thing is to always analyse what
happens. Being a pushbike rider of many years before making it onto MC and
Car, I sometimes feel I've developed a 6th sense about when stuff is about
to happen. {And take required preemptive action without thinking too much
    about it.}

No. The front gives you 100% front. Guzzi have done this since the
850-T3 in 1975. I've no idea how the VFR system works.
