A couple of the wireless ones with built-in IR illuminators. The illuminators aren't true IR, being quite visible when on, but they work well enough. He's a good source for the cheapy 4-way input cards too, most of them being ripoffs of the original card (Pico, I think). -- Dave GS850x2 XS650 SE6a "It's a moron working with power tools. Ah, luckily most of the folk round here are quite old and not eBay savvy. The only way they would have a military nightvisionscopen is if they captured one during the war! Ooo, ~50 quid ... could you use one in front of a CCTV camera do you think .. save having to bother with I/R LEDS etc? I have an old Sony camcoder that is supposed to have night vision of some sort. I don't suppose it would be as good as the above kit though (and not so easy to fit on yer Ruger #1 .458) ;-) All the best .. T i m
Well, it could be but they seemed 'on a mission', looking for something specific as such (as one might a lost dog etc). When I saw them looking over my fence it was if they were looking for something specific, when they didn't see 'it' (whatever that was, in this case I believe a particular scooter) they looked away. I only The one they went for was standing in the front garden of a series of terraced houses overlooked by the same the opposite side of the road, in broad daylight and with folk (like us) and traffic coming and going. All the best .. T i m
Cheers Geoff. Although if they are 'archives' they may not cover the latest products / options? All the best .. T i m
Or attract them because it suggests you have something to protect? Like the very expensive and conspicuous CCTV kit that was up 2 weeks before stolen off the back wall of a local Dorothy Perkins? Or the footage of kids throwing stones at or shooting cameras with air rifles on Crimewatch? Understood. But don't they actually have to enter your premises before they set off a traditional alarm (i/r movement, magnetic door / window sensors, vibration, foil, pressure mats etc etc)., so dummy or real, noting will happen if they don't go in? So if they see a big CCTV camera don't they simply pull their hoods over their faces more or keep their backs to the cameras? A slightly less conspicuous camera won't actually stop them taking our bikes any more than a fuckoff jobby pointing at them with a flashing 'Recording' LED on it will, but the former might make them reveal more of themselves by accident? When they broke into the football club my BIL looks after (obvious internal and external cameras) they took the safe and the DVR (I know, I told them the DVR should have been protected) . ;-( All the best .. Box clever. Have a highly visible one and a couple of ultra discreet ones. Also a fake or old/used sacrificial recorder. -- Dave GS850x2 XS650 SE6a "It's a moron working with power tools. How much more suspenseful can you get?" - House
Already have that idea covered (in my head anyway) Dave. For example, I fancied one of those solar powered pir triggered wall lamps, might be a good location for a pinhole camera overlooking the bikes. ;-) Yeah, I actually have an old CCTV time lapse VHS recorder. I could leave that somewhere prominent and loaded with a movement triggered time delay explosive charge. ;-) All the best .. T i m
I have (download all the Police guidelines etc) and they won't be pointed at a 'public place' as such. Even if a part of the fov did broach a public place I believe most of this capture software can be set to only record when certain soft boundaries are broken. And as long as it didn't 'accidentally' cross into the girls changing room or a kids playground I can't see the Plod getting too upset. Some of the footage I've seen on Crimewatch is clearly videoing public places so there seems to be a certain realistic tolerance about. ;-) All the best .. T i m p.s. When we were having a bit of trouble with kids getting 'over excited' kicking their footballs against our houses / cars etc I got a form from the Police that actually suggested I take notes of times and dates and take photographs of the miscreants etc. Before I bothered I shared this 'plan' with said kids "ok, if you carry on doing what you are it's all going to get messy .. read this .." and the problem ceased. ;-)
Well, whilst I agree that in the real world any such solution would be considered a 'no no' there is a thought that these gobshites only understand one language, one of violence. Play the gentle / honest do_it_by_the_book game and they laugh in yer face and come back and steal the replacement bike the Insurance company give you, till you can't get insurance any more etc? A mob of Pikes decided to camp (and crap, dump, flytip and leave needles all over) our local park. One day a cross bow bolt was fired from somewhere right through one of the caravans, later one mysteriously burst into flames, they left the next day. All the best .. T i m
Maybe you could help educate me here then. Where do I mount these hidden cameras between the bikes and the pavement 6" behind them? Here is the plan to help you, so you don't make a fool of yourself. ;-) [House]<6'> [bikes]<6">[pavement][road]. Maybe I could do something like this .. [House]<6'> [bikes]<6">[pavement][road][opposite pavement]{new 30' solar powered wireless CCTV tower}? Do you think the Council will mind? All the best .. T i m
Hmm, take a bit of fitting (all concrete) and even if I did I'd be better off fitting a surface mounted scanner to get an image of their shoe soles as it's all very compact out there. :-( Well I live in a house so that's handy <g> but that's where the big camera would be isn't it? If you imagine a very short and narrow frontage leading directly on the pavement, the angle of incidence from anything high enough to be out of reach (burglars recently just twisted my mates CCTV camera out of the way) or in the ground, would be nearly vertical? Fine if they had a distinctive bald spot or I wanted some upskirt action? Don't have such a thing Steve, our front hard standing goes straight onto the pavement, no wall or fence etc. There's not even a fence tween neighbour and I but there is one at the other side (the only potential place for said device and one I had already considered (and not discarded outright as yet)). Well, two maybe (being realistic). I had already considered the concealed one in the only suitable (lowish) fence post facing across the plot Steve but there are very few places I could fit something that actually worked under all conditions that I could also afford. That and it would have to have a very narrow field of view AND point up quite a bit (or I'd get pictures of their knees). Then I'd have to get the cable(s) along the fence and into the house (without giving the game away to any passing Pikey)? Don't you think the 2' sq solar panel might give the game away .. or get stolen! True, however I'm not convinced I have the options you assume, not without going to disproportionate cost / effort anyway? ;-)
