Wot Clem said. Especially that first sentence. I think my daughter was
seven when we first ventured out on to the highway. She was 15 when I
took her to the Spag Rally. It was her son who came along with me on
    the Toy-run.

See if you had a Jap sports bike Theo you wouldn't need to add higher pegs, they
come with kids pegs stock (shame if you want to carry an adult pillion :)

My Nephew was comfortably able to reach the pegs on the TRX at age 5, he's a bit
above average height (obviously doesnt take after my side of the family :)
would have been able to do so a year earlier than that (and that's about as
    young as I'd take pillion).

How do you work that out ? At 5 he's not capable of hanging on ? Bullshit ! At 5
I was hanging off the back of dad's ag bike at 30-40K bouncing across paddocks.
Bloody sight harder to stay on than a road bike on a nice smooth stretch of
    bitumen.

I'd draw my personal line at about age 4, but younger than that may be OK
    depending on the kid.

My young bloke's 5 and he's been coming on short trips with me for a while
now, he especially loves it when I pick him up from pre-school (impresses
    the chicks)
The best thing I found was to use an intercom so I can check to see if he is
ok. I also ride a lot slower with him on the back.
