Any idea what the little strap on most superbike pillion seats is for ?
Is is cosmetic or does it have a practical use?

It's for holding your newspaper when you've been down the shops but my
wife holds onto it when she ride pillion.. the mad woman.

Doing stoppies. You take your left hand off the bars, then give it a sharp
tug while you jam on the front brake.

I've heard it is a "grab rail" but never known anyone who uses it for that.

The few times I've ridden pillion, that's what I would hold onto for
    preference.

I've always held onto the rail behind, but if fitted, I have found side bars
the best for cornering. Not that I ride pillion all that often, scares me
    shitless.

Just dig your knees into the rider.

I don't think I'd like anyone behind me on a pillion seat with a strap-on.

I've always thought that they were likely to snap & hence tend not to
use them. Well, that and it puts my fist between the riders buttocks
which can't be good for either of us.
