MV tied up both the riders & constructors titles of the Italian Superbike Championship yesterday, so I'd say it's a fair bet the MV stand at the Milan show will be a happy place to be -- Krusty www.MuddyStuff.co.uk Off-Road Classifieds '02 MV Senna '03 Tiger 955i '96 Tiger '79 Fantic Hiro 250
The MV club had some F4 thingies on their stand at the Stafford Classic Mechanics show, which was bit cheeky, but then the MRC had a brand new 1200 Gran Passo on theirs. I could have been tempted if it wasn't such a GS type monster and I wasn't actively pursuing the MX5 option. Still waiting for the rumoured 600 single, half a bialbero corsa corta model. Some chance it might be the modern equivalent of a Nordwest. -- +----------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pete Fisher at Home: | | Voxan Roadster Gilera Nordwest * 2 Yamaha WR250Z | | Gilera GFR * 2 Moto Morini 2C/375 Morini 350 "Forgotten Error" | +----------------------------------------------------------------+
Until I get there... One of the lads at work waved a copy of MCN under my nose today and in it they test the 1078 MV against a Ducati 1098R and a Bimota DB7 and the MV came either last or equal last in all categories. If MCN don't like them (1) then even more reason to have one. (1) Not strictly true but wtf.
Heh - yet the 312 won the 2008 Masterbike test. Who ya gonna believe - MCN or a collection of journos & racers from all over Europe. -- Krusty www.MuddyStuff.co.uk Off-Road Classifieds '02 MV Senna '03 Tiger 955i '96 Tiger '79 Fantic Hiro 250
As long as my finances don't get a kick in the bollocks and I get more than my minimum trade in figure for my 10R I'll be having one early next year. I've found somewhere flogging 1000cc versions for a reasonable price but to be honest if I'm going to spend £12k on a toy I might as well spend £15k on one and have the latest shit hot version. Should I go for a test ride on one or should I just say bollocks to it and buy the thing and never let on if it's crap? It's not as if I'll be letting the unwashed masses have a go on it so as long as I say it's brilliant who's to know different?
It won't be crap - that much is guaranteed. But you may /think/ it's crap to start with as you do have to learn how to ride them. At one of the previous Masterbike tests, I think it was the first year the F4 1000 appeared, they had the usual motley crew of journalists & racers at Jerez. The fastest lap by far was set by the MV, & the time would've put it in a respectable position on the grid in the previous year's WSB. However none of the other testers could get close to that time - it was just one guy who'd figured out how to ride it properly. Similarly one of the mags (Superbike or Fast Bikes) borrowed my mate's Senna a few years back, & gave it to a BSB competitor to ride back-to-back with an R7 race bike at Brands. He got the Senna round within a few tenths of the R7, even though the Senna was totally standard & on road tyres & the R7 had all the kit & slicks. Yet when another magazine borrowed it, they basically slated it. So I'd say don't have a test ride, because there is a good chance you'll think it's crap. But buy one & spend some time figuring out how to ride it, & you will be a very happy bunny indeed. -- Krusty www.MuddyStuff.co.uk Off-Road Classifieds '02 MV Senna '03 Tiger 955i '96 Tiger '79 Fantic Hiro 250

My 10R didn't handle as I wanted it to when I collected it so I left things alone for about a thousand miles and then started playing about until it felt right for me. My 748 was the biggest pain in the arse I've ever owned and I spent two years trying to ride around what I looked on a deficiencies in the handling when really it was a combination of the fact that I'm shit and it needed new tyres.
I honestly don't know, but you may find it's better to dial yourself into the MV rather than try to make it feel like a ZX10R. The one thing I would do is set the sag & ride height as soon as you get it, & make sure everything else is at factory settings. OK that should be standard practice with any bike, but I wonder how many people actually do it...[1] I can put you in touch with a couple of People Who Know MVs when the time comes if you like (an ex-racer in California & a trackday instructor in Switzerland). [1] Reminds me of when the MK2 Tiger was released. Triumph slid the forks up through the yokes a couple of inches to fit them in the crates - but not all dealers read the uncrating instructions. The result was the Tiger getting panned in some reviews for extrememly twitchy handling. -- Krusty www.MuddyStuff.co.uk Off-Road Classifieds '02 MV Senna '03 Tiger 955i '96 Tiger '79 Fantic Hiro 250
Just a quick 20 degree course alteration .... but : Which one is this ? He was devistatingly quick around the Nordschleife and was staying in the Alte Forsthaus with his son whilst I was there last year (I did try and ask but his Engrish was about as good as my Italian). http://s56.photobucket.com/albums/g195/dwbrown/DTM Ring Sep 07/?action=view¤t=P1000039.jpg
Bugger knows - MV certainly never made any with that colour scheme. -- Krusty www.MuddyStuff.co.uk Off-Road Classifieds '02 MV Senna '03 Tiger 955i '96 Tiger '79 Fantic Hiro 250
