I am popping over to Racing Lines in Derby on Monday to get some tyres fitted to the SO hill climb Morini. I could drop off those books I mentioned ages ago and a Jonathan Meades rarity if you want. -- +----------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pete Fisher at Home: | | Voxan Roadster Gilera Nordwest * 2 Yamaha WR250Z | | Gilera GFR * 2 Moto Morini 2C/375 Morini 350 "Forgotten Error" | +----------------------------------------------------------------+
Yes please. The gas man (on a Monday, this doesn't bode well) is due to phone me before 10am to say what time they will arrive so I can either nip out and meet you or you can drop in for a coffee depending on timings.
OK, I have to ring the guy at Racing Lines at 9am to make sure he hasn't binned his racer, so all being well I would be getting to Derby around 11. I'll contact you on Monday. Quick tack to the left.... What hill climbs are you attending this year Pete ? Got a list of venues & dates so one can pop along and support ?
A list of all NHCA attended events is here: http://www.nhca.co.uk/Calendar/dates.htm I ought to definitely be doing the first Hartland. If the Morini isn't finished I will just ride the Nordwest. Definitely not Tart territory (well except possibly for another type in the 'Green Ranger' bar the night before). Otherwise, May 10 and September 14 Wiscombe meetings are definite. Others depend on me getting in as some of the classier hills are limited entry. Now I am not Road Legal Championship Secretary I may not find it so easy to get a ride. I will try for Prescott June and September, Shelsley in July and September and Loton Park in July. TBF, I expect to be way less competitive on the 40 BHP Morini than on the 100 BHP Voxan. There is already a very quick classic 350 Ducati and a 650 Tricati, that apparently will also be eligible for Forgotten Era, as there is no start date cut off. The 'replica' should have more go than the Ashes to Ashes original (I built it in 1981), but I know I am (even) slower. Just to get it up Loton in under 70 seconds would please me. -- +----------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pete Fisher at Home: | | Voxan Roadster Gilera Nordwest * 2 Yamaha WR250Z | | Gilera GFR * 2 Moto Morini 2C/375 Morini 350 "Forgotten Error" | +----------------------------------------------------------------+
Further to our chat, I recommend listening to the latest offering from Julian Barnes. Good language and thoughts on "a sense of death" (today on Radio 4). http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b009gkn5 PF
I read Julian and George on Pete's recommendation and enjoyed it. There are simple truths? There was a discussion on whether authors reading their own books was wise recently - probably on have your say. I shall report back. While we are doing radio 4 listen again last Friday's afternoon play was very good. It can even be on topic by identifying the bike noise used for the priest's scooter. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/arts/afternoon_play.shtml The family funeral is done, [1] my friend's funeral (I got back from the family funeral to news of the death of a friend) is tomorrow. At the moment I'm not sure if I'm going as the actions of her family with regard to her partner have disgusted me and though I'm sure she'd be delighted at me giving them a piece of my mind it really isn't appropriate. They may be bigoted homophobes but they are still grieving for their daughter. [1] There's a rant that some here have heard, suffice it to say that pentecostal christians and myself are not a good mix.

In communiqué Not tried to read that. My Julian Barnes favourites remain "History of the World in 10 1/2 Chapters", "Flaubert's Parrot" and possibly best of all "England, England". -- +----------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pete Fisher at Home: | | Voxan Roadster Gilera Nordwest * 2 Yamaha WR250Z | | Gilera GFR * 2 Moto Morini 2C/375 Morini 350 "Forgotten Error" | +----------------------------------------------------------------+
You may have a point about the reader. I have an audio version of ZATAMM which I am sure is much better listening for not being read by Pirsig. I still like some of the metaphors though, particularly the penguin references. Listening to it again on iPlayer I also realise I missed a program about '1968 Myth or Reality'. Must catch up with that and see how it matches my memories. -- +----------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pete Fisher at Home: | | Voxan Roadster Gilera Nordwest * 2 Yamaha WR250Z | | Gilera GFR * 2 Moto Morini 2C/375 Morini 350 "Forgotten Error" | +----------------------------------------------------------------+
I certainly wasn't in Grosvenor Square or Paris. It has to be said that being a student EHO on a sandwich course at The University of Aston in Birmingham was pretty tame. Never offered illicit substances once. Newky Brown was as exciting as it got for altered states. I do remember a slogan daubed on the Union bar (outside) wall though - "The urge to destroy is a creative urge". -- +----------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pete Fisher at Home: | | Voxan Roadster Gilera Nordwest * 2 Yamaha WR250Z | | Gilera GFR * 2 Moto Morini 2C/375 Morini 350 "Forgotten Error" | +----------------------------------------------------------------+
