Are there any decent country pubs left within about 30 mins of Aston
    Clinton? It's been 25 years since I lived there & I can't remember any
of them, & even if I could, the good ones are probably part of a naff
    chain by now.

  2. 'The Hampden Arms' in Great Hampden (Just outside Missenden) used to be
the best local pub in the area when I was over there, although it's
    quite small and very local.

I've stayed at the 'Fox Country Inn', just of the M40 at Stokenchurch
and it's a nice place, especially if they have the open fire on. Good
food, not always very busy though.

If you do want to eat, and it's a date, I would head for 'Five Arrows'
    in Waddesdon.

The Shoulder of Mutton in Little Horwood used to be good, but several
years ago now I think it was re-furbed and I haven't been since. Not
sure if it's within 30 mins either.

    What a useless post.

    Oh well.

I've not been there for... oooh... a month or so.

Still there, still open, very pleasant indeed.

There's a shedload of very good pubs around the Chiltern/Vale of
Aylesbury area. Half the fun is meandering around and finding 'em. Isn't
    it...?

Or you could just get a Good Beer Guide.

Thanks, Waddesdon could be good. Do want to eat, but not a date, just
meeting an old friend I haven't seen for 25 years.

    Thanks both.
Yes, but not when you just need to find one to meet someone at for
    lunch.

If you fancy venturing into Aylesbury itself, The Kings Head has very
good local ale (Chiltern Brewery) and decent food.

There's a good food pub in Wingrave (Rose & Crown?) - can't remember
the name, or as already, suggested, the 5 Arrows in Waddesdon - the
boozer just up the road from the 5 Arrows towards on yer bike was also
pretty good for food, but haven't been there for a while.

You either have appaling taste in pubs or it's changed hands again. If
you want to be 'served' by a miserable old hag who can't be arsed to
cook but will begrudgingly give you a baguette with soapy cheddar or
    dry-as-**** tuna, it's perfect.

Not having a pop at you, just mentioning it in case anyone else noted
it for future reference. If you like that authentic 'Welsh language
speaking pub' atmosphere, you'll love it.
