  2. Oh Ah, didn't notice that - good point.

Perhaps he was scammed in the past.

Or perhaps he misunderstood eBay's curious rules regarding cash. I had an
auction pulled by eBay recently, apparently because I had mentioned cash
payment in the listing. I had said something like "payment by cleared
cheque, cash, Paypal, whatever", and they didn't like it. They were clear
in their message that it was the word "cash" they didn't like. It was only
when I read the small print that I realised that any mention of cash has to
be "cash on collection" only - the implication that you might accept cash by
post is against eBay's rules. Perhaps the guy has had a similar
communication and got scared off (after all, I assume that is eBay's
ultimate aim, now they own Paypal).

On a similar note, what is all this about "advertised elsewhere"? I had an
auction pulled because I stated "I reserve the right to withdraw this item
as it is advertised elsewhere" (which it was). Ebay told me this was
against their rules, and to be fair I can see why - but many of the listings
I look at a year later say exactly the same thing. Was I just unlucky, and
got caught by a random inspection?

The annoying thing was that in both cases they had deleted the offending
listing, so I had to start from scratch with a new one, rather than amend
the original. Probably half an hour's work in each case. Punishment?

No , ebay don't do any checks of their own.

Someone will have seen it and reported you.

Ebay don't inspect, they rely on other users to report. If you're
selling stuff that some other no-life is selling you'd better make sure
    your wording is correct.

Within 3-4 minutes of submitting it, before it even appeared in the search
    pages? Wow.

I suspect they run an immediate text search on new listings, investigate a
sample, and check and delete any that offend.

See my reply to Alex. Likely to be eBay themselves, given the timescale
    involved.
    Makes sense.

  10. The bloke's an arse - plenty of people with a PP account won't be able
to bid on it because of the limit PP impose. Way to go if he wants to
get a shit price for it.

Anything of substance I've bought[1] or sold[2] on obey has been paid for
with large, slightly musty piles of Nelsons. AFAIAC financial instruments
other than cash or cheque can be folded up until they're all hard corners
and poked up their corporate orifice.

  14. Agree. Ebay will let you demand cash as means of payment after an
auction is completed, but won't allow you to say you accept cash in the
    auction details. Daft.

Really? I put "Comedy financial instruments are not accepted: cash or
cheques for the correct amount will do nicely." in my last auction, and
similar in others. Perhaps they weren't paying attention.

If he only wants Paypal, he doesn't want some **** to come along and haggle
him down. Seems emminently sensible if you're easily haggled.

When I was considering bidding on the K100 the seller stated paypal
only so I emailed him and offered £100 deposit on paypal and the
balance in cash if I won the auction. He was more than happy with the
offer and it all went slowly down hill from there.

My lad's had some bodykit bits and pieces up on fleabay and he's run into
the same thing. Now he just says "Payment in full 7 days after auction ends
    using Paypal"

It seems to be the motortrade related things that cause the biggest amount
of grief as he's Niged all types of crap without a hitch.
