Heh, I received an apologetic phone call this evening telling me that
I now owned some thermals that would fit a 10 year old. I'd have worn
them until they walked on their own before washing them but Adie was
worried about them crawling around the bedroom at night.

I think that's a bit extreme. A lot of people take it pretty easy on
th slopes and don't venture off piste. When I bought my jacket several
years ago, I wasn't expecting to do much energetic skiing.

I only suffer in warm conditions, but then I generally only wear a
single layer under my jacket unless it's very cold.

Don't forget that Dave only does snowboarding, so clearly doing far
    too mush work.
Hah. Your intentions and actualities are clearlt not the same.
I usually[1] have a thin base merino, then a thicker merino shirt,
then a shell jacket. Could be far too warm, but pit zips allow a
degree of control that makes it much more usable.

[1] Last weekend it was supposed to be -15C up top, and windy, so wore
merino long johns _and_ fleece trousers under my ski pants, but then
it wasn't so windy, but a few zip adjustments made it absolutely fine.

Actually, that is at least partly your fault.
Yeah, I wish I'd discovered the concept of shell jackets earlier, but
    hey ho.

I was also thinking about varying weather conditions. I've been out in -
30C to +10C and have a single jacket that I can use in all conditions.
Mind, when it gets really warm, I put the jacket in the backpack.

    Heh, nice try.

I actually get quite cold on the piste these days, especially when riding
with the mrs. It takes so little energy to go down the piste, I don't
    warm up.

Obviously off-piste, on a clear slope, it's pretty effortless on the board
anyway. No pogo-stick impressions for us.

Bumps or undulating terrain gets the heat building up, as does hiking out
    to the powder.
