I have a possible buyer for a full Pan Euro fairing. What's a
    reasonable price?

Blimey. New, it'd probably cost thousands. Used... a complete full
fairing... well, there won't be many takers, will there, because most
people will just want one or more panels, not the whole shooting
    match.

I'd have thought £750 would be fair.

I was offering as individual panels and then saw an ad from someone
who was looking for the whole thing, for a 2000 rather than a 1997,
and in blue if possible, but I have contacted him and he is
    interested.
That's a bit more than I would have thought, but if I'm not ripping
him off at that price, I'll see what he thinks. It has a Givi Monokey
rack on the back so it might depend on whether he wants that.

    Are you including the panniers?

Assuming the fairing is in really good order, no cracks, scratches,
repairs, and includes all the fittings, screen, little cubbyholes,
etc, I still think it's fair. It would be hellishly hard to source all
the bits one by one, in the right colour, so £750 for the whole lot
    doesn't seem excessive.

No. That's slightly different. Good used luggage sets, panniers,
frames and mounting brackets, go from about £120 for a very basic old
Krauser kit (I've sold a few at that price) to a few hundred quid for
a three-piece Monokey set with the frames, but probably not the
fitting kits for the bike you want to put it on.

Pan panniers will only really fit Pans, so they've got a much smaller
market. If it was me, I'd be asking £150 for a pair of panniers in
good condition, plus maybe £50 for the frames. If I was in your
position, I'd offer to add the panniers (with or without frames) for
    another £100.

He did? Christ. A whole fairing, complete? Well, if that's what they
go for.... then I'm way off the mark. I suppose it depends, though, on
whether youy have two or more people who desperately need one bidding
against each other. One week, it might sell for peanuts, the next it
    might go for silly money.

    <fx: searches eBay>

A quick search of completed auctions suggests anything from £50-80 for
a top fairing, and £25-50 for a single side panel. That's be within
the £160 ball-park, then, but I was thinking of an entire fairing,
100% complete, including everything I've listed, and every item the
same colour. And the fittings - I see the main mounting frame goes for
£75-90 used, assuming it's undamaged, and if you've totalled the
fairing the odds are high that the frame is bent.

And even if it's the tiniest bit bent, then the panels won't line up
on reassembly. I found this with my Trophy 1200. Just a fraction of an
inch out at one end of a panel means a gap of an inch or two at the
    other end.

I had a shufty as well. There seems to be quite a bit of variation in
price with colour: blue costs more than that red that most Pans come
in, with white somewhere in between, for obvious reasons, I
suppose. Breakers seem to be a bit pricier. One has a green fairing
upper with two mount pieces missing going for £75.

I reckon £750 is not too far off the mark, actually, for a full set of
panels, front to back, with the cubby holes and lids.

Potential buyer reckons 80-100 for a full fairing, on the grounds that
a pair of main upper body panels have just gone on ebay for 60.

I think it will be leaving the house in little bits.

    Part of my reply:

If the upper panels went for £60 as you say, you still need to add
lower panels, inspection panels, indicator housings, side panels,
rear panels, and the panels beneath the headlight. I do not think
you can get those, intact and in the same colour, for £40.

I forgot to add the tank cover to the list.
I have the horseradish and will be implanting it in a suitable cage at
    the weekend.

It's a bit like last week's Top Gear where it would have cost 17,000 to
make Clarkson's 325 convertible into mint condition whereas you could
probably buy a mint condition one for half that money.

Beats me why anyone would have paid a couple of grand for those sheds

  15. Because they run a hugely profitable tv show franchise with an enormous
budget to entertain their faithful and they have long since run out ideas
for anything that might be considered original.

Or, to put it another way, because they can
