She's a beauty, ain't she. Some kids on another site thought it was a
2 stroke, What is wrong with kids these days?

But I did learn (i.e. googling) that Triumph actually did make 2
smokes at on time, news to me. And there was a German Triumph...

  3. Ooh, that is nice indeed.

    Lovely colour, too.

The bike's ~80 miles from me. Looks like fun. Should I do it? Decent
    value for $3200?
FWIW, this is happening tomorrow at my local beach. They want a
ridiculous $40 to get in the gate. There will be bikes there, but I
    dunno what.

It does look nice, but I have no idea about it's originality or value. I
do know that most of the Brit bikes over here have shot up in value over
the last few years. Mine have gone up 2 to 3X.

Be prepared for a whole new set of problems - it may require much more
TLC and fiddling with than your Pans, and don't be surprised if bits
fall off it if you ride it hard.

Having said that, 500 twins are sweeter than the larger ones IME.
Can't afford to come back just yet.

Same engine as the Tiger 100, mine came to an unexpected stop trailing
a pool of oil and bits due to a conrod snapping and destroying the
    crankcase by flailing around.
Not a pretty sight, a complete replacement engine was required which
naturally came with the issues of any old used "its a good 'un guv"
    piece of crap.

The problem is, I can't ride it without trucking it somewhere. Means
it'd be a labor of love to do for the rare riding orgasm.
The slide show has some good pix, and I think there's a better than
even odds you can see me taking off on a wave in one.

  9. And yet, when Simon's Jag needed a replacement lump your advice was to
    get one from a breakers...

  10. Many of them are suckophants, just like *you*.

If you wanted to suck up to Neil Murray, why didn't you just post your
pirated message to ukrm, instead of crossposting it?

  11. Every engine I sell, if it's a decent runner, I sell still in the frame,
plumbed in. I invite the buyer to come along, fire it up, listen to it,
run it through the gears, and then help me remove it.

If I can't do that, then I sell it as an unknown quantity.

Every used engine that's not in a bike is *always* sold as a "really
good" engine, which prompts the qestion: "Why isn't it propelling
something, then?" And even if it has been rebuilt, it's depressing how
infrequently it's been done by SWK.

Engines sold as proven decent runners fetch prices two to three times
higher than ones where you take your chances, in my experience.

I always heard that. I vastly preferred my '72 Tiger TR6RV to my '72
    Daytona T100R, though.

Because he knew that there are riders in rec.motorcycles who would
appreciate it, instead of trying to start an argument in response.

But Tim; anyone who posts anything to a newsgroup in a friendly manner
is a "suckophant", according to Krusty.

I'd probably feel that way myself if *I* didn't have any friends.

That way you can *pretend* you have a friend...

Keep right on digging. Eventually you'll reach China, where the boys
outnumber the girls by several million.

This means that the odds of you finding a sex partner of any sort will
have increased by a *huge* percentage so long as you don't mind being
    referred to as a "gwailo".

The old Trumper SpeedTwin was a smother motor than the Bonnie, for sure. Of
course that was back in the mid 60's and then, as now, the main thing people
looked for was... Power... and the Bonnie had more, so it attracted more
    customers.
