SO's son is an electrician & fancies working in Dubai, however Google
isn't being very friendly when looking for suitable agencies[1]. Don't
    suppose you've got any ideas/contacts?

[1] Lots for 'electrical engineers', but virtually nothing for
electricians (as in wiring buildings rather than machines).

I've never been convinced that agencies really work for the 'hands on'
sort of thing he's looking for. It might be worth his while just going
over there and seeing what he can get by hitting the bars and clubs
where people doing similar work go to socialise.

It might also be worth him trying some of the big construction
companies direct and trying to blag his way in straight through the
front door. Once he's got a start they'll be reluctant to let him go
if he's any good and a willingness to travel and work shit hours is
    always a good thing.

Not a bad plan. He's selling his flat atm[1] so should be able to
afford to do that when it's gone.
He's willing to do that alright. He spent 2 years working the night
shift at T5 with a commute from Swindon every day.

[1] Anyone want a two bedroom 1st-floor flat in Wootton Bassett?

Whilst I think what you've said is probably the best idea, the only
thing to remember in Dubai, is that 99% of all the construction workers
are lowly paid Indian immigrants who are treated like shit in general.

Although I've not frequented any building sites in Dubai, I don't know
what sort of skilled foreign workers would be required, if at all.

I assume that local workers are considered 'slaves'

I just assumed he'd try and blag his way in as a supervisor or
    similar.

Unskilled monkeys or owners of the construction sites in question.

  11. In addition to the list BGN gave, I'd look at www.bayt.com and
    www.michaelpage.com

I've got a friend who lives there. I'll ask her to see if she knows
anything. Have him send me his CV.

Also, have a look at Nankeel and Emaar - the two biggest property
    developers.
As Cab said, labour are slaves. A Westerner will want to be coming in
at a supervisory level, so he should adjust his approach as necessary.
