No, not a scam for a Chinese supermarket.

A message for WiP. After finding that the 'Show of Hands' do is "cabaret
seating" we decided to take the lad anyway, to enhance his appreciation
of live music. So if you see a couple who, on immediate appearance, seem
to have their grandson with them, that will be us.

Have you been to the Wulfrun Hall before?

  2. What on earth is that? My tickets still haven't arrived, I shall phone
    them tomorrow.
    Excellent, get them young.
Yes, to see Divine Comedy earlier this year, all standing. It was a
    really good gig.

IIRC it may mean seating round tables folk club style (only without
    candles in old wine bottles).

I got all high tech and printed my own tickets out using 'fast ticket'.
Haven't been to the Wulfrun for a while. Our regular favourite Runrig
gigs are usually at the Civic. I remember seeing the Oyster Band and
Robert Cray there though. Oh and if I cast my mind back far enough Zoot
Money and the Big Roll band, with John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers with
Eric Clapton as support (at the Civic)! Fairport Convention at the Grand
    Theatre were also fairly memorable.

  4. OT, but if you're ever passing round the north circular, about 1/2 a mile
north of Hanger Lane there is a Chinese supermarker called HooHing (iirc).
Fucking wonderful place it is. They have everything you could ever need and
specialise in Chinese, Thai, Malaysian and Japanese foods.

Well worth a visit if you're into cooking or just want to stock up on squid
    and strange sauces.

There's another one on the industrial estate just off Staples Corner.
You can access it from the sliproad that leads to the A406 roundabout
under the A5, if you're heading north up the Edgware Road.

  6. Hmmm, I hope not, I want to dance. Martyn Joseph is the support act
btw, doors open 7pm, he's on at 7.30pm.
I rang them, they went 'ooops, sorry we forgot' so I'll pick them up
    on the night.

  7. It ain't on the industrial estate, it's at the end of Humber Road, which is
somewhat before the slip road, she said pedantically. If you mean Wing Yip,
that is. Please see previous recommendation to WC - you can also get to it
by doing a U in the Jet garage if you happen to be going Sarf on the A5.

Mind you, I find it rather disturbing that you lot are thinking of visiting
    this close to me.

I thought it was just past the Peugeot dealers, which puts it on the
slip road. Maybe I'm wrong, but it's not like I'm going to be visiting
it so I'm liable to be a bit vague about location.
I'm round that way quite a lot. I cover the London area, and that's
where most of my business is done.

  9. The entrance (at the moment!) is in Humber Road itself, just up the hill
from the Pug dealer on the corner of said road. So, you actually have to go
up Humber Road to get to it. If that makes sense. If bloody TFL EVER sort
themselves out, the new entrance will be on the A5, just after Humber Road.
But there's a bit of a problem with the planning agreements. Wing Yip are
building a nice new store and restaurant, with a nice new entrance on the
A5, thus pleasing the locals. Brent gave consent, all fine and dandy. Then
some numbnut at TFL decided they couldn't be arsed to move the damn bus stop
    a few yards.

For history nerds, the big brown building just down from the Pug dealer is
the visible bit of the Admiralty bunker.
Hm. What sort of fellow should I be looking out for, then?

  17. Almost looks worth going just to sample the Dim Sum judging from the
menu for the Mitcham and Hanger Lane stores.

  18. We shop at Wing Yip, on the A23. There's what's supposed to be a very
good restaurant attached to it, as well. Haven't tried it yet.

  19. Wing Yip or Hoo Hing? I don't thnk we've got the Wing Yip eatery yet.

For some juvenile reason, Hoo Hing as a name makes me chortle.

You'd be in perpetual hysterics then in Hong Kong.
