Did you get my email?
Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, frag Shit, yes I did. And I then promptly forgot about it. S*rry. I'll have a rummage at the weekend and give you a shout.
Wicked Uncle Nigel wibbled... Great, thanks. Question regarding the milling bits, if I get some MDF / normal wooden planks and use them to practise with (OK, perfect the CNC files), will that blunt hell out of the bits or will they laugh it off? I know odder things happen, packing tape or carpet and stanley knives don't like each other when you'd think the blade would last for ages.
Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, frag It's traditional to use wax blocks for that. MDF, I'm not sure about. The dust can be pretty nasty stuff. Wood might be OK, but you'd need to crank the cutter speed *right* up, I think. Best advice would be to post a question over on uk.rec.models.engineering, there are a lot of knowledgeable folk over there. Tell them what the machine is, and what you're trying to do and they'll help. I'll probably dive in and laugh too...
On Thu, 5 Feb 2009 22:26:42 +0000, Wicked Uncle Nigel snip> You don't need to run fast to cut wood. Think about how fast a wood lathe runs at when you're using chisels on a tool rest and you'll get the idea. If you run at high speeds you'll burn the corner of the cutter and using tipped tools is like using a blunt instrument to do the job.
Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, Andy Bonwick Good point. Hadn't looked at it that way. Uh-huh.
