As subject really... Mr Fowlers delivered a new set of front brake caliper
piston seals this morning.. £80 for a complete set, I ask you!

Anyway, rants about OEM parts aside, each seal kit comes with a very nice
sachet of pink grease. So where is this sposed to go then? No mention of
it at all in the manual, and its a genuine Yamaha one, not a HBOL...

    Guidance please people...

Smear lightly on the pistons before fitting - it's for lubricating the
    piston/seal interface.

I have an old tube of Girling brake grease that has lasted me decades of
    brake cylinder rebuilds.

I bought some Wurth brake grease when I cleaned and fitted new pads to
the APs on the Gixer. It comes in little sachets and one of those was
enough for both calipers when applied with a toothbrush. AP specifically
say not to use coppa-slip or the like on their calipers.

Shouldn't that be a light coating of WD40?

Any idea why? I've always used the copper type grease on brakes.

They don't say, but I figured they said it for a good reason, so I
    complied.

Copper and aluminium in cobination with an electrolyte like salt water
results in galvanic corrosion, there is a potential of about 2 volts
between them. Anodising and the grease in the coppa-slip tends to stop
    it happening though.

Depends where you're putting it. Brake fluid parts bad, sliding parts
    (pins, pad shims etc) good.

    IMO.

I used coppa-slip for years, but I will invest in a small tin of Morris
    Brake Grease next week instead.

Brake grease is for pistons: to lubricate the seal/pistons. I wouldn't
put it on pads or pins; copper based grease for that.

It was the pads and pins they said not to use coppa-slip on. PFM Brakes
recommend the use of silicone RTV on the back of the pads.

I learnt a bit too. I'll monitor the calipers and see how it affects
them and how long the brake grease lasts before it needs cleaning off
    and redoing again.

I really don't think you did. There's no such product.

I've used Copaslip and its near relative Copper Ease, but I've never
seen coppa-slip on a shelf anywhere.

    Fucking pedants.

I have the same tin of Comma Copper Grease that I have had for many
    years.

I can't be arsed to go and look in the garage or in my van but I'm
sure I've got around 5 different types of spray on copper shit. They
all work equally well apart from in freezing cold weather when all you
get is a jet of propellant and no fucking copper.

Did we try to burn any copper**** at Donington when we were emptying
    my van of aerosol pyrotechnics?
