Perhaps they don't ride when I do. I do most of my riding as commute,
leaving home at 6 am, arriving at the office at 6:45. I do not recall
seeing _any_ women on bikes during my ride to work in the last three
years. I return home at 1 pm. I see lots of guys but only occasionally
a girl on a bike. I rarely ride on the weekend. My weekend
    'recreational' rides include fire trucks.

Perhaps this relates to the "Real motorcyclist thread".

Perth at 6am... I'm surprised you see ANYONE on your ride to work !
So you don't ride in morning rush hour nor afternoon rush hour, and you're
surprised you don't see many girls on bikes, Theo you do realise the vast
majority of people have to work roughly 9 to 5 ?
M/C Couriers ? Mechanics doing test rides ? What percentage of all bikes ridden
that day are going to be on the road mid afternoon ? 5% ?
Righto, seems we've pinpointed the other main problem, like it or not for the
"real motorcyclist" thread a very big percentage of bikes *are* weekend toys.
Hell *I'm* a weekend only rider nowadays (or I was until they defected the
    Bandit, bastards).
Perhaps, but it's also that different people do different things to enjoy
riding. Of the women I know who ride (probably 2 dozen) the only one I could
even envisage going to a bike rally is Zebee (dunno whether she does). So if
you're a guy who goes to rallies all the time you're liable to comment that
women dont ride much - false perception - they don't do the same riding as you
    do....

Most of the women I know who ride either a) have it as their preferred transport
and commute, ride weekends, everything on a bike, or b) ride on sunny days and
weekends away. They don't do rallies, they're much less likely to go to the GP,
or ride BT/Bigiain style mega miles in a week, and for that matter they rarely
    do ride days either.

Funnily enough though an awful lot of guys I know fit into the same two
categories. A mate has a VTR he bought new 3 years ago - he's clocked up 6000Km
on it. He's done more Ks on his dirt bikes.

About six motorcycles (the same ones) all winter. I expect more in
summer. Hey, it's a good time to go to work.
Would you commute during the rush hour if you really didn't have to?
I know a dozen women who ride and go to rallies.

I heard about the ACT chapter, which received professional, supportive
coverage in the Canberra Times. I'll try to post an article about GRO soon.
