Oh yeah, poor Lozzo.
LOL!
I was just hedging, in that even though you're a good bloke, who appreciates a fine malt, there may be some godless soul out there who wouldn't GAF about you P.
Gong were a psychedelic rock/fusion band depending where in their chronology you want to dip in. Daevid Allen (can't be arsed to check any spellings cos I'm off to the pub) basically wanted to make spacy noises and have comedy lyrics to get across an acid-casualty's idea of love and peace while prancing about in make up looking like a twat in the late 60s early 70s and beyond. .. Pip Pyle was one of their later drummers (no pun intended)I believe, another being Pierre Moerlan who (almost coincidentally) died last year and was a brilliant fusion drummer and worth listening to on his own. He took over the band later on to fulfill contractual obligations. Their height of spacey goodness were 3 albums Radio Gnome, Angel's Egg and You which are really good if you a] don't take them too seriously b] appreciate music history and virtuosity and 3] like weird time signatures.
And before I get accused of hypocrisy by Hog or Cane again I meant "spacey" noises, not "spaccy" noises.
Don't forget the origins. Allen was an Ozzie in England, part of The Soft Machine. After a trip to France, British immigration wouldn't let him back in 'cos he was an undesirable, so he stayed in France with his new hippy friends and wrote songs about drinking tea. I wonder who tipped off the authorities? Who replaced him in the band? When will Continental Circus be released on DVD?
Oh I didn't realise it was a competition to see how many replies you got. [dunno how to count the clicks] I just thought it was about a bit of banter amoungst mates. Every day's a school day.
Oh get a grip woman. And when you saw the thread 'That Vulcan' did you think "Oh no, not Leonard Nemoy!"
You honestly thought I'd use a heading like that to see how many people would click on it rather than I just thought it was funny?
