Plastics paint vs repair

    They do, but what constitutes a particular colour can vary from a couple f
    coats of a solid colour to two or three coats one one colour (usually silver
    or black) followed by three or more coats of another colour, and possibly a
    coat or two of yet another "coating" (pearl is an example), and THEN it's
    all lacquered.

    Candies are even more complicated because the colour changes with each coat
    applied.
    A repainted panel can look MUCH better, because the manufacturers use as
    little product as possible to cover a panel, where a decent painter will use
    as much as is needed to achieve the desired result.
    But it most certainly will and even if a panel is painted, is should be
    blended into any adjacent panel so that an colour mismatch can be "lost".
    Repair the plastic and get it painted.
