No, sod it, I'll reply to myself. Take your helmet off. The person that
worked there didn't know the arguments of wearing/not wearing a helmet.
She's there for £5 an hour. Her family are probably crapping themselves
about whether she'll make it back tonight. She's probably been told by a
jobsworth to get everyone to take it off.

OK. I make no sense on usenet. Do remove your helmet though. Unless in
petrol stations. That's just plain stupid.

I wouldn't go that far, but it most certainly is a pretty low thing to
do to your partner if you don't plan on leaving them. Even if you do
plan that it's polite to wait until after the split.

Begs the question: WTF were you wearing your helmet in a shop?

I take my helmet off in shops and stuff as my spatial awareness is a bit
wanky with it on, that and its good manners but in petrol stations I
    'mostly' take it off.

If I do I leave the scarf on becoming a visage of half bank robber, half
Dermot O'Leary in a greasy wax jacket.

    I rock.

  7. Healthy & Safety reasons. In case a videocassette slipped from an upper
shelf and hit me on the head.

When I was in France t'other week at a medieval fest, there was a
display of pictures from the previous event. All the pictures with kids
in had their faces tipexed out. Weird, I tell you.

Maybe they'd all been Tippex sniffing.

  11. Completely agree. ISTR that when this question came up a while back, there
was an argument that you should hand over a business card, state very
politely that you are not evading payment, but simply refuse to adhere to
their ridiculous conditions and invite the petrol company to send you a
bill. Then walk away. If enough people did that, the jobsworths would soon
    come into line.

I was in a strange garage the other day and while we was queuing they
were playing this video thing about what happens if you drive off
without paying. Lots of intimidating flashing lights and bells
apparently but I did wonder if showing the vid to the people in the shop
waiting in line to pay was actually targeting the right audience?

I reckon a large bloke with a pile of bricks at the exit should do it,
along with a sign saying "Don't pay and get a free brick thrown in".

Can't recall exactly where I got this from but the blokes nickname was
"Da brick". I'm sure SWK WBAIAM TTM.

Perhaps they work on the principle that people who drive off without
paying don't do it EVERY time they fill up. Showing them what might
happen could encourage them to do it elsewhere.

Depends which video/DVD one is looking to rent, I suppose.

  17. What you don't realise is the attitude of some petrol station managers
towards motorcyclists. To them, you and me are just scum; to be treated
as second-class citizens and so what if we get alienated as a result,
out business is hardly a major part of their turnover.

**** 'em right in the eyes.
