The dealer didn't show me what to do because I was still 16 when I
bought my RD200 so I rode it through the fence between my parents
garden and next door when I was having a quick go in the garden.

I did Honda CB125S to Triumph T100R. I never crashed the Trumpet once.
(The 125 at least 6 times tho!)

I bought my bike (sub 125cc) privately shortly after 17th and my Dad rode
it home then showed me what to do when we got back.

You could if you could afford the insurance (or bike)...

    ....I couldn't.

  5. Which, let's face it, is pretty much worthless.

    Not dissimilar to the US.
In depth? Don't make me laugh.

So you do a DAS and within a month of deciding you want to be able to
ride a motorbike, you're able to ride a ZX10r if you can afford the bike
    and insurance.

and, people still won't know how to ride. Sure, they'll know how to
control a bike to a basic level required for the testing - but, as well
you know, none of that reflects real world riding on a regular basis.
No, but it rather proves my point that the UK system is barely different
and certainly not "better" than the US system.

Same here. I'd never ridden a bike before picking up my CB200 from Coburn
and Hughes on a Saturday morning. I didn't know how to steer it and was on
the wrong side of the road after the first bend. Still don't know how I
missed the Cortina coming the other way.

It was like learning to swim by being thrown in the river.

Nor me, hence the bathtub Triumph 21. I remember I knocked the seller of
the Matchless G2 down to 25 quid as I only had 30 and needed 5 for the
    insurance.

Well, I had the benefit of having ridden a 50cc bike before I got my 250
(also at 16, but not quite so legal.) I fell off it many, many times.
Probably more than on any other bike. Didn't break anything when I
    crashed it though.

And that wasn't *that* long ago; 1980. No compulsary training, license
granted by riding around a circuit where you were observed pulling away
and then an emergency stop and finally stopping once again under full
control. About 15 minutes from provisional to full license.

Sounds like picking up the sidecar last weekend. Well, with the
exception of the Cortina 'cos it was a transit.

    I agree!
Evil KILLER ROADS, and NASTY bikes!

Let us now take that road AND the bike to court, and sue the bajeezuz
out of them, for allowing an uneducated POS to manipulate them!

Don't be silly! How can you take a road and bike to court!!!

It's the roading 'company' and the bike 'manufacturer' that you need to
    sue......they will have $$$$$$$$! :)

    Me too.
If you could get the insurance. In the North of Ireland, you couldn't.
My progression was CB175, crash, claim, court etc. Never did me any harm,
made me the man I am today, young people nowadays don't know what they're
    missing.

    Ahh, yes.
Like the SUBJECTS of the UK have a choice as to whom will be a
    QUEEN.(or prime minister)

Those FREAKS can't even be trusted to buy an ITEM for the "intended"
reason of self defense, and they claimed to have VOTED for that right to
    be taken away!

No wonder the British are seen as stupid... even by the French!

You have to pay a tax/Permit just to be ABLE to watch/BUY a fuckin' TV!

Regarding the original poster, the dumb **** was an idiot who deserved
to croak, because HE didn't know how to properly know how to manipulate
the controls of the bike he was SPEEDING on.

Again, I'm glad the SOB is dead, and I hope he didn't have children.

  18. here in Va the difference between the learners permit and a full license
isn't much...with learner's permit you are supposed to ride with someone
that is fully licensed...not sure what good that does to have someone on a
bike near you....Va does require helmets so it'd be even tough to hear them
barking some suggestions at you... with the learners you aren't supposed to
do interstate riding nor carry a passenger....may be some limitations on
night driving, but not sure...i got my license years ago..

Just like in America, Queen's will tell you they are born that way........

You don't need to buy anything for self defense......just use your
training and whatever is at hand IF you need to defend yourself.

Duh! the French have hated the British.......forever!

It's to try and reduce the number of people being dumbed down with US TV
    programmes.

Now you are assuming his mother is a bitch!!
