Yer not wrong there. Stupidity, incompetence or just sheer bad luck,
    but not bravery.

No, that was your Government. But nobody forced them to enlist.

Soldiers die. That's sad, but it happens. But this soldier was away
from a war zone, riding a motorcycle. So what has his occupation to
    do with it?

No. I believe that a large number of them join up because it's a job
and they'd sooner risk being killed or seriously injured than be
unemployed. I'm not convinced that being forced to make that choice is
something either of our countries should be proud of.

FWIW you won't see me criticising the kids that are out there
fighting, I'll save that for the governments that send them there.

Having a son of 18 who was going to join up (but failed the medical
because he had shin splints) because there isn't any work for school
leavers where he lives makes me think about why the kids are there a
bit more than others who see it as a chance to take a cheap shot at
    our colonial cousins.

Unemployed kids have always been potential cannon fodder but going to
war for a few billion barrels of oil reserves isn't quite the same as
    fighting fascism.

The latest generation of army recruitment ads on tv leave a lot to be
desired. They usually end up with the message "to be continued" but
the next one doesn't show a coffin coming off an RAF Hercules.

Sucking his keyboard for inspiration, Lozzo typed:
Yes, rather easy on the eye.

Sucking his keyboard for inspiration, Robert Bolton typed:
Deadmail quotes from "I feel like I'm fixing to die rag".

Turby announces this is by Country Joe and the Fish "off the top of my
head", as if it's some inspiration.

I respond with a fake newspaper headline announcing the surprise news that
Eleanor Rigby was written by the cheeky Scouse songster. I could as easily
have written "And in other news, Mafeking has been relieved", or similar.

This passes Turby by, and he actually posts a URL to the lyrics to prove his
    point.

    This amuses me.

It's called irony, and not everyone gets it.

Aha. You are assuming I am /less/ senile than you. That could be a
very big mistake. I'm actually Mary Ann Sailors and I am eighty-five
years, three months and a day.

    Simple accomplishments are the best.

Well, it does help to read everything first. At first glance I thought
he was saying that CJ wrote that piece. DOH! And to boot, the Beatles
cover that CJ did was a different song. More coffee please.

Except as we now know (and we know that _they_ knew), Iraq was in a
position to threaten no one .. meaning that protecting anyone against them,
    was wholly unnecessary.
