  1. Indeed, some fascinating little snippet of info passed through the ether
a few months ago. Some 20% of people are not quite who they think they
    are.

He could now buy the number plate I saw in Flitwick today, on some

    It was a Suzuki Swift.

Bet it also had a little fish on the back, too.

  6. <reaches for Stock Tales Bin>

When my sister was doing her teacher training thing 45 years ago she
shared a college with statisticians. The statisticians were given a
project which involved blood typing and parentage and that sort of
thing. The conclusion they came to, which was put into the rag mag
which is how I got to know about it, was that for the 5 or so years
previously at least 1 in 10 of Brighton's children were not born to the
    man they called their father.

  7. Which is what I said (I think). Or at least it's what I was intending
    to say..

  8. It didn't as such. Even modern Hebrew isn't written with vowels - it's
written with vowel points (sort of like optional characters that are not
part of the standard text but written above it - often over a non-pronounced
carrier mark). Even some modern newspapers are written without vowel
pointings although most are done with pointings are there are a
considerable number of people living in Israel for whom Hebrew is a
second (albeit full-time) language and for them it is much easier to
read with the vowel pointings. My father was one of those for a brief
    period..

Which leads to all sorts of interesting vowel-shifts with dialects -
the various Hebrew dialects differ quite markedly about how they
pronounce some words and it's often due to the inferred vowels.

  9. The vowel points are actually (in most cases) below the letters (unless
I've misunderstood your point). Off the top of my head, the only
letters that commonly have them above are 'vav', 'yud' and 'shin'. The
one vowel point that can go above all letters is 'chirik'.
There are also variations depending on whether one is Sefardi or
    Ashkenazi Jewish.

  10. Why, pray tell, should I accuse _anyone_ here of being anti-Semitic,
when I can't offhand recall a single anti-Semitic remark on the whole
    frigging newsgroup?

To be fair, I've worked with and for jews, and only 30-40% of them were
involved at any level with the global zionist conspiracy.
