Plug Caps

Not the HT lead caps, but the nobbly bit that screws onto the threaded
top of the plug. Got some Iridiumns for the MV last week, & they didn't
come with the caps, which surprised me. Tried to unscrew the caps off
the old plugs, except they weren't screw on ones, as I discovered when
forcing them just that little bit harder & the plug fell to pieces. So
I had to pop down Motorsave & buy 4 cheapo NGKs to steal the caps from.

Is it normal for Iridiums not to include the caps? Looks like they do
include them on all the pics I can find, & it also looks like they're
the fixed type, so have I been sent fake plugs?

These are what I bought -

And the answer from NGK tech support is... CR9EIX plugs don't include
    the caps. Bizarre, but true.

I suppose it's a bit different with you moneyed boys, but I'd be able to
put my hands on any number of said caps in seconds, just by ferreting in
the bottom of my toolbox for the set I took out last time. Unless one
has obviosuly failed, I can't help but keep them, 'just in case on of
the new ones is dead out of the box', see.

Then, of course, they sit in the bottom of the toolbox for some time,
until eventually supplanted by a more recent set of changers or the
vehicle in question has moved on (usually some years ago).

    Wanna set, mister?

The ebay picture shows them with caps, and they are described as a
    replacement for the standard plug.

Seems a bit off to me, particularly as the make / model the auction is
aimed at specifically needs the caps.

I think it's a bit naff frankly, and would be a tad pissed off were I
    in your position.

The box they came in shows them with caps too! I was a bit peeved, but
it's NGK's fault imo, not the ebayer. They're 'looking into it', so
I'll wait a while before leaving feedback. If they change the listing
to state the caps aren't included, they'll get a +ve & no mention of
the caps. If not, probably a neutral with a warning to others.

Me too, except as I said elsewhere, the old ones had fixed caps that
couldn't be removed. I've also got 14 plugs for the Jeep (6 old 8 new),
all of which have got fixed caps. Then there's a couple of old Fantic
ones in the toolbox, but minus the caps. The rest got binned last year
    when packing for the move.
Thanks, but no need - all sorted now.

I didn't get any caps when I bought the iridium's for the Zed either.

I took the ones off the originals without any issues though.

  9. More normal for the plugs to come with the caps, in full retail
packaging, but if the seller is flogging off a bulk purchase, it's
perfectly possible the original order was for capless plugs.

NGK have confirmed the Iridium IXs don't come with caps.

  11. Penny-pinching, then. Sure, many cars/bikes don't use them and they are
thrown away, but it's nice to have the option if you need it.
