plug kits

  1. OK I've heard of the aerosol cans that are used for emergency tyre
repairs. But what's the story with the plug kits? I figure from other
posts that they are better. What's in the kit? Do you still need
another source to inflate the tyre? How expensive and what brands do
    you guys recommend?

Different kits have different stuff, but mostly they contain a reaming
tool, an insertion tool, (sometimes the same tool does both) a tube of
glue, and a few plugs or lengths of waxy rope. The BMW kits have rubber
figure-8 plugs and a few canisters of gas with a short plastic connector
to attach them to the valve. I am waiting until I have had to plug a hole
with my kit, then I will wish I had the BMW inflator stuff instead of
having to spend half an hour with a hand pump.

there are kits with gas inflators and you can get a high pressure hand pump
too...the hardest thing can be finding the hole... :) ...once the hole is
found, remove penetrating object, ream with tool,, apply glue to rope
plug thing and put in hole with tool, remove tool...wait 10
mins...inflate...it takes about 3 gas bulbs to inflate a bike tyre
properly...some motorbikes have on board air compressors............ well
    not very many

  6. Thanks to everyone.

I'm now going out to buy an new item for my tool kit. I guess riding a
Beemer I better keep it all same brand ;-) Besides I'm lazy and those
    canisters sound like the trick.

Yes. Go have a look at a BMW cycle tool kit.
