Not often a bike gets mentioned by the Poet Laureate. "What was your special charm Simon Powell? Your silver smile; How you held your face aloft, a trophy, when you laughed. You had style, swooping towards Swansea On your Moto Morini, Bravo, bravo! pale rider." http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2010/nov/28/germaine-greer-simon-powell-poetry I remember him from the early days of the MRC. RIP Simon, "take it to the limit one more time". -- +-------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pete Fisher at Home: | | Aprilia Shiver Yamaha WR250Z/Supermoto "Old Gimmer's Hillclimber" | | Gilera GFR * 2 Moto Morini 2C/375 | +-------------------------------------------------------------------+

Not a Poet Laureate, but: Across the open countryside, Into the walls of rain I ride. It beats my cheek, drenches my knees, But I am being what I please. The firm heath stops, and marsh begins. Now we're at war: whichever wins My human will cannot submit To nature, though brought out of it. The wheels sink deep; the clear sound blurs: Still, bent on the handle-bars, I urge my chosen instrument Against the mere embodiment. Though so oppressed I find I may Through substance move. I pick my way, Where death and life in one combine, Through the dark earth that is not mine, Crowded with fragments, blunt, unformed; While past my ear where noises swarmed The marsh plant's white extremities, Slow without patience, spread at ease Invulnerable and soft, extend With a quiet grasping toward their end

He was a keen biker: In gleaming jackets trophied with the dust, They strap in doubt - by hiding it, robust - And almost hear a meaning in their noise. .... One is always nearer by not keeping still. [OT] 'Claus von Stauffenberg' is one of my favourite poems.
Before my time. Have you read "To the Wedding" by John Berger (author of "Ways of Seeing"). Some good motorcycle riding passages in that, as well as being a good book generally. -- +-------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pete Fisher at Home: | | Aprilia Shiver Yamaha WR250Z/Supermoto "Old Gimmer's Hillclimber" | | Gilera GFR * 2 Moto Morini 2C/375 | +-------------------------------------------------------------------+
from Richard Thompson Said Red Molly to James that's a fine motorbike A girl could feel special on any such like Said James to Red Molly, well my hat's off to you It's a Vincent Black Lightning, 1952 And I've seen you on the corners and cafes it seems Red hair and black leather, my favorite color scheme And he pulled her on behind and down to Boxhill they did ride
Have some of thi8s then, I don't want a pickle, I just want to ride on my motor sickle And I don't want a tickle I just want to ride on my motor sickle And I don't want to die I just want to ride on my motor cy cle. Late last night the other day I went round and I saw Ray Ray he didn't have much to say except I don't want a pickle....
It's not a big motorcycle Just a groovy little motorbike It's more fun that a barrel of monkeys That two wheel bike We'll ride on out of the town To any place I know you like First gear (Honda Honda) it's alright (faster faster) Second gear (little Honda Honda) I lean right (faster faster) Third gear (Honda Honda) hang on tight (faster faster) Faster, it's alright It climbs the hills like a Matchless Cause my Honda's built really light When I go into the turns Lean with me and hang on tight I better turn on the lights So we can ride my Honda tonight Or, we could just add a clause to rule 16, call it "m" - motorcycle music. Googling "motorcycle songs" gives at least a dozen pages of them.
