sat behind 2 of them for 50 miles on the M3 this morning.. suprised to
see them filtering through the traffic, it was more or less stationary
for about 10 miles though !

This was going to be my question. I often filter past police cars and give
them a little wave. I usually get one back.

In my commuting (filtering through near stationary traffic for a couple
of miles every day) experience, the feds are the most consistently
observant of vehicle types on the road, and always manoeuvre to make my
    passage easier.

Where do these myths come from?
Filtering past slow/stationary traffic is legal.

I always have a good laugh when I filter past stationary bikes.

Its no myth filtering IS illegal. You must treat each lane as seperatew
traffic and making a new lane in the centre is not cricket old bean.
Not to say that this is correct cos imho its not.

No it isn't. A policeman told me that in order to be illegal in this
country it has to be explicitly referred to in law or of swarthy
appearance and filtering is not explicitly referred to in law. Actually
to be fair he didn't mention the swarthy appearance bit, I just put that
in for a bit of topical political comment, feel free to ignore it if you
    wish.

Careless or dangerous riding is illegal though and it is much easier to
get accused/convicted of this when filtering, which is probably what is
    confusing you.

Magpie was seen penning the following ode to ... whatever:
So I assume that you're advised to filter on your test when
possible/safe just because it's illegal, right?

It's not illegal. Besides, wouldn't an air cooled engine overheat if you
    sat in traffic?

Give reference to the appropriate Stautory Instrument, please.
Documented prosecutions of motorcyclists for filtering would be even
    better.
Being "not cricket" is a long way from being specifically illegal,
fuckwit. "Splitting lanes" may well be illegal in some states across
the pond, but I assure you it is not here.

A point of failure wrt the motorcycle test is to "Make adequate
progress" - filtering is expected. Any advanced instructor or
examiner will *insist* that appropriate filtering is undertaken.

I put it to you that not only is filtering "cricket" but that it is
the main reason for commuting by motorcycle.
This line makes no sense at all, which fits in rather well with all
    your misguided ramblings.

What is your stance on "undertaking"?

I'd suggest you google for all posts on the legality of filtering
before posting such bollocks. Pay attention to posts from a fella
    calling himself JP.
