Police records

  1. Just got in from work, 5AM finish, 6 mile trip consisting of 30 and 40
    limits.

Was cruising though the opening 30 limit and spotted a marked police
car ahead, so checked my speed and prayed they would piss off up a
side road. They did so almost immediately. "Hooray," thought I, and
    pressed on.

Bimbling at no more than 45 MPH through the remainder of the 30 limit
and just before the 40 sign, I clocked another marked car sitting in
the entrance of a retail unit. "Shit", I thought, "I hope they don't
    give chase."

    They did.

I'd dropped smoothly and stealthily to the speed limit and then gently
built up to 40 MPH in the 40 zone. BUt then 1/4 mile or so further,
    they hit the blue lights.

A very young chap approached, after I'd stopped past a pedestrian
crossing's zig-zags, and said, "You were going a bit fast back there
sir." He waited patiently while I removed my lid and earplugs and
    began again.

I explained I had just finished work and was keen to get home to my
bed, to which he replied it was not a good enough reason to be
speeding. He checked my license and registration, which amusingly has
my surname spelled incorrectly. This didn't seem to be a problem, and
I have no arrests or convictions to my name. For a moment I really
thought he's slap a fine and points on me, but he seemed happy that I
was just pressing on a bit on the way home for some kip, and let me on
my way, warning, "Watch your speed!"

    My question is this:

Are records kept of instances of individuals being pulled over? For
example, if I were to be pulled over again in similar circumstances,
would plod have details of this morning's engagement and thus be
influenced to issue a fixed penalty and the accompanying points?

Or should I stop worrying about it and go to bed?

    WHICH IS THE WRONG ANSWER.

The correct answer is "No, I wasn't, why do you think I was?"

Either that or he has a nice picture of the back of your bike on a
screen embedded in his dashboard and it has a three-digit number across
    the bottom.

Never did get a summons though, which was nice.

It's better than admitting to a crime that they may well not have any
    proof of.

  10. At no point did I mention my speed or apologise, etc. The only words I
said in response to his statement about my speed was, "I've just
finished work and want to get home to bed." Then came the usual checks
on the radio which were all fine, as I'm a good boy really.

"You were going fast" + "I was trying to get home" != "You were going
    fast" + "No"

  12. It wasn't admitting speeding either. It was sharp-witted piece of
    subterfuge. Oh yes.

    Champ says...
I've only been radared twice, once when I was 17 when I claimed I
thought they were kids with an air-gun, I still got a endorsement. The
last time was just outside Matlock Bath at an indicated 120 on the
350F2. He nicked me for 85mph after I braked like **** when I saw him.

Well, it was pretty fast, but I think I could probably do it faster if
I'd got a better line out of the left hander.... tell you what, stay
here and I'll go round again.

    Actually, it isn't.

I've been pulled over many times for speeding and have always been
'basically' honest; more times than not I've got away with being ticked
    off.

No one likes being treated like an idiot and that's precisely why it's
best if you we're speeding to admit to 'non-specific' speeding; i.e. "I
suppose I was going a bit fast" etc. etc.
