Both wartime leaders who created a programme of nationalised works to
keep the otherwise unemployed in work. Both died during the war.

    Sound pretty similar to me.

Gawd, it's fucking _agony_ to watch someone with no idea _whatsoever_ of
political theory, expound his 'ideas' as if he were standing propped up
at the bar after one too many.

Exactly. It's pretty painful to watch Champ and Bullshit Bear
pontificate about something of which they're entirely ignorant. As
recently as a few years ago, I had to teach the latter that British
electorates don't vote for a Prime Minister.

When the final results come in, I'm sure we'll see that whilst Obama
carried the Electoral College, his majority in terms of the popular vote
will be somewhat narrower. So claiming that the US has 'changed' as in,
a huge groundswell rejection of racism, is simply bollocks. The Obama
victory is historic, yes. But if he survives his term without being
    assassinated, I'll be very surprised.

  9. 52%, ahead by 6 points apparently.

First Democrat to win more than 50% of the popular vote since Carter in '76.

  11. Not as a standalone number, no.

Now go get the popular vote statistics for the last 20 elections and see
how it is on a relative scale.

I was at a Democrats Abroad event - great fun with the maddest Elvis
    impersonator I've ever seen.

Elvis does a raffle at 2am was pant wettingly funny. We were all fairly
    pissed mind.

And I'd have to agree. British politics have moved on a long way in the
last 11 years. From my perspective the government of the country has
    been pretty good.

    People are human.

It went shit-shaped with Blair around Iraq and Afghanistan. Apart from
that there were a few minor issues. His first term was pretty good
(even though I didn't agree with everything he did- which is probably
    right).

Mr Obama is a black liberal in about the same measure as me I suspect. I
think you had him taped yesterday referring to his "sponsors". I won't be
surprised if he turns out to be a real ball buster. Hope he keeps Condi in
    his team too.

Brown was a good Chancelor by comparison to others but still terribly
innefectual. The most basic common sense regulation of the monetary markets
would have insulated GB from the current maelstrom.

Blair was a charismatic effective leader certainly. Nevertheless he
facilitated the slide into government by minority interest group. A society
where the convoy has to sail at the speed of the slowest ship. All the time
the German industry was romping ahead while even France thrashes us in
    national infrastructure.
