Eh? they really don't like the fucking Arabs, other than the areas that
have become infested by radical islam.

Give me some proof please. Where have there been issues between Arabs
and "Africans" recently? And why do you think that it'll influence the
way that Obama works with and treats the Arabs. Just because he may
have an "affinity" won't wash as a reason.

I have an affinity with Arabs and that certainly doesn't mean I hate
    Africans.

Just search for African-Arab cooperation on google and you'll see all
sorts of sites where it's explained.

hey, I've no idea. But Andy and Cab have both spent time in the
middle east and africa, so I'll take their view over yours, if you
    don't mind.

Any takers for the Glenrothes by-election? :) Are any news channels

    heh.

Mind you, the two are in no way mutually exclusive.

I've been both miserable and wrong on several occasions.

What about Darfour (South Soudan/Tchad arab/african conflict) ?
There is also a long history of tensions and racism in Algeria between
    Kabyles and Arabs, for instance.
There is no such thing as a "simple" african/arab relationship, there are
too many different situations with post-colonial resentment, economic
foreign interests using ethnics tensions, etc.

Will I did think about that too but I was really going by the opinions

You're right, but like in any area, there are always regional
conflicts. My question was more of a general nature as Hog stated that
Africans have no soft spot for Arabs. To generalise like this is total
    bollocks.

Your reference to Kabyles and Arabs isn't a good one either. Kabyles
are not black [1]. They've got predominantly European appearances. From
the Spanish, IIRC. Again, Hog was talking about Black Africans.

Whilst African/Arab relationships are never simple (where would the fun
be in politics if that were the case) aside from regional conflicts
like the ones you stated above, there are generally good relationships
throughout the whole continent (albeit a "live and let live" style
policy in a lot of cases).

[1] IIRC, Edith Piaf's father was a Kabyle.

Maybe Obama really is different - I saw his press conference
yesterday, where after lots of questions about the financial
situation, he was asked about his promise to get a new puppy for his
    kids:

“This is a major issue,” he said. “It has generated more interest on
our website than just about anything. We have two criteria that have
to be reconciled. One is that Malia is allergic, so it has to be
hypoallergenic. There are a number of breeds that are hypoallergenic.
On the other hand, our preference would be to get a shelter dog. But
obviously a lot of shelter dogs are mutts — like me.”

Referring to himself as a 'mutt' was just priceless, and showed a
    fantastic lack of pretentiousness, imo.

Obama's problem is that so many people expect so much from him after
eight years of unmitigated disaster, that there is _no_ way he's going
to be able to live up to the mini personality cult that has been built
    around him.

And political leaders tend to disappoint; especially when they're
markedly different from their predecessors. Britain thought that it'd
be a good idea to elect 'a woman' in 1979, and within four years, the
country had been brutally and forcefully raped via its anal canal.

It's a term I've heard in that context before, seems to be quite a
common term used by yanks to describe their being from mixed ancestry
(whether white/black or dutch/german/apache, etc.) from yanks of mixed
ancestry before. I wouldn't put too much weight on it.
