When departing the Eurotunnel, be aware that the petrol station
    doesn't appear to have ordinary SP95, only SP95E10 - with 10% ethanol.

Not a problem for modern bikes, but TOG might struggle. :)

Weather back to normal down here, now, after 36 hours of torrential
    rain.

Oh, I can drink it, but I'd prefer to remove the 90% that's petrol
    first.

Isn't this fairly common in France now?

Anyway, I'll be topping up in Tesco on the M20 junction at Cheriton &
buying a Ginster's to munch whilst sous la Manche. Might get half a tank in
by the time I reach Laon...

Care to point me to that on a map?
I'll be filling up in Laon before finding the hotel I think. Should be
pretty much a tankful from Calais to there.

Scratch that - found it. Looks like there's a Little Chef nearby too,
so I can fill up on proper British grub before having to suffer a week
    of cheese & garlic.

Obligatory now. All stations serving 95 have to have 10% ethanol. I've
not noticed any probs on my bike (mind you, it's not that old).

Wow! I had no idea. But then I buyu my petrol in CH whenever possible,
plus the R36 really notices the difference if I don't put 98 in it.

No, I do not think it is compulsory.
It is available since April 1st, but you can find SP95 in a lot of pumps.

Oh bugger. It's MapPoint 2002, so that'll be - 7 years old. Is there
anywhere else around there for fast grub?

Tesco's cafe - not a lot otherwise, despite being called Cheriton High St.
There's a newish Holiday Inn Express which I've used before an early ferry
and some empty buildings, inc. the old Tunnel museum. The HIE restaurant
had a choice of 3 items on the menu and the next nearest eatery was too far
to walk so we got a carry out from Tesco and had a picnic in the room.

oh, if you come off the M20 at J10 Timostadt, there's a Tesco for fuel and
a McD just down the road. I'll be sticking with the Ginsters from the Tesco
    petrol station.

There's a good fish and chip shop about 100yds past where the Little Thief
was on the other side of the road, if it's breakfast you're looking for
there are a couple of cafes on the high street in Cheriton heading into
Folkestone, but I havn't eaten in one of them for a long time.

I don't know where you're coming from but the Oakdene cafe
http://www.oakdenecafe.co.uk/ is about 45miles back up the M20 where it
joins the M26 does a good breakfast and is alaways full of bikes whenever I
    go past.

BGN may have some more suggestions,

Seemed to be mostly ethanol laced 95 on the autoroute, but the
supermarkets sometimes have both (well those near the chateau anyway).
The Mazda seems to go OK on it. I discovered it hits a very sweet spot
    at around 4000 rpm.
