Prace your bets

  1. I know the Pacemaker is running a tad lean under some circumstances.

I dunno what the root cause is yet but we are on the trail. First port
of call will be the fuel tap lump filter arrangement mechanism thingy
and if that don't work the carb is coming off.

I have sent three tanks of fuel through it now and I have a symptom.
When the fuel is low but not yet into reserve and I keep up a sustained
absolutely fucking flat out for more than a mile it starts to behave
like it is running out. Backing off to a speed I am not happy to cruise
at and it is as good as gold. Another mile at over 60 and it starts
again. Only when it is getting low on juice though, so it is very
    marginal.

The above, as everybody knows is either partially gunged lines/filters
    or dodgy float stuff.

My money is on the filter and that fixing it will make bugger all
    difference in overall performance.

Sounds very filterish, inadequate fuel flow sort of thing. The Trophy used
to do that around 90 until I cleaned out the inline fuel filters.

    As did the KH500.

The other thing we know about the Pacemaker is that it can do a thousand-odd
miles nailed to the stop, with no faults other than a temporary absence of
key. I reckon Auvache has been crapping in the carb again.

What I fort. Which is why I am going to start there. It helps that it
shouldn't be a difficult job as everything is gloriously accessible.

    Felt like half that, mind.
Presumably you're shopping for something a tadge faster?

Well you don't actually have to nail it to the stop to achieve full
speed. In fact the last quarter of the throttle seems to be there more
for artistic reasons than any real function or purpose.

No, in me keks same as usual.

    Ho yuss, just a tadge.

Nothing outlandish mind. Another cylinder and an extra half a litre
would do. A whole litre would be nice but sadly most bikes at that size
are too big for both me and my needs

Appreciating classic in nice condition for the price of an outdated, no
longer fashionable sprots 600? I know what I'd rather have.

But, yes, preferably for less than that.

I've seen Gary (of Wessons) working on that one - if its the one I think
it is - certainly no expense spared. Gary doesn't come cheap and the
    owner was 'demanding'.

Its not really been used and a bit too shiny for my taste.

Give it here. Wouldn't be shiny and unused for long.

    But yes, IKWYM.

Oh yeah. Filled it with petrol and the extra weight means extra flow
and the problem has gone away.

I am as convinced as it is possible to be that it is Motorcycle Angina.
When I clean out it's tubes it will be as good as gold.

Perzackerly. I don't see the point of owning a bike and not using it.
People who do that ought to be forced to sell their bikes to people like
me who can then run them into the ground in a proper fashion.

Could it be something as simple as an nice clean, new in-line fuel filter,
fitted the wrong way round ?
