....but if I only have a bike insured on a "classic" policy, will it
    keep my no claims alive?

    in purple crayon:

Not normally. Unless it's been specified in the policy documents.

  3. Cheryls Morris Minor Classic Car insurance policy specifically doesn't
accumulate NCB. But then it only costs her about £90 a year.

who do you use? I want to insure the R65LS as cheaply as possible as
my only bike, to keep the bike NCB going, until I buy another roadbike
    to replace the 'blade.

  5. It does for me. It's a policy, innit? Unless you're talking using it to
keep, say, your NCB on a car policy active.

I know of a currently uninsured CG125 that's ideal for this very
    purpose...

    isn't insuring a vehicle you don't own...wrong?

here's a second stupid question - how long, if at all, do you have to
have no bike insured before your NCB starts atrophying/disappears
completely? Does this happen? Am I going mad?

Don't go confusing "owner" and "registered keeper".

AIUI 2 years tends to be the limit, but IANAI.

  9. Auntie Carole, for classics, moderns[1], and car. AFAIK the classic
policy doesn't accumulate NCD itself, but I was certainly able to point
to X years of NCD on it when I bought a modern bike policy. That was
    some years ago, mind.

[1] In the loosest possible sense.

My 'classic' car policy has no NCD.
    Bike may be the same.
    Or not

    I ran a Volvo 122 under a classic £60 a year policy! for about 4 years,
when it was replaced by something more modern! I found that all my previous
    no claims had been lost.
Though in the dim and distant past I had a kit car that I had laid up, on
the fire and theft part of the policy, it just seem to run and run on the
balance of the original premium. After 3 years I found it had accumulated
all the time as NCD!! that dropped my insurance after a period of company
car ownership. There was even some balance left...

bad form yadda yadda, but I've just found that a TPF&T "ordinary"
bike policy for my BMW will cost less than 80 quid/year, so ****
    classic policies.

I didn't even bother with the F&T part for the CG. Balance of
    probabilities and all that.

    That's 20% of the CG's value.
