Problem clutch

    Hi again all,

at the end of my trip today, I stopped at the lights (freeway exit at
Wahroonga) after arriving in Sydney, having not used the clutch for about
120kms. As I went to take off, the damned thing revved high and caught me a
bit by surprise. I instantly realised that the clutch was taking up a hell
of a lot later in the release than it had before. Between there and my
joint in Lane Cove, it got progressively later and now it takes up almost at
    the end of release.

There was no clutch slipping but I'm guessing there's probably a leak -
possibly in the master cylinder? I know the first question is going to
relate to the clutch hydraulic fluid level but it appeared OK to me - last I
looked I'd just completed the ride though and it's too damned cold to go
    outside again.

So what should I do from here? If it is a master cylinder, what's it likely
    to cost?

    Any help greatly appreciated,

    Cheers,
    Dave '03 XX

  2. It's a Jap bike with nearly 40K km on it, it's fucked mate. I'll give
you $3.50 and a kick in the nuts.

If it is the master cylinder, once upon a time rebuild kits were
available, it's only a couple of seals after all. Failing that you
should be able to grab a second hand one cheap.

C'mon dude - you know it's worth more than that. At least 50K km and $5.50.
Nothing fvcked about it, other than it doesn't have desmo, a v-twin, doesn't
come from Italy, can't see "Marchesini" anywhere and costs less than $5000
per service. What hope does the bastard have????
I'll have a look-see - not sure what the prob is...

So that's what happened. I filled up at a Shell a few weeks ago and my front
tyre lost 10 lbs in the next week. Had to replace the valve insert. Must
    have perished the neoprene seal.

I used a Shell last week and this week I need new tyres (two at the same
time - canya bur-leeeve it !?) and a rear brake pad .. and I only rode
    PAST the V-Power bowser..

Coincidence or conspiracy ? I know what the paranoid side of me thinks.. ;)

  9. Let that be a lesson to you Theo, next time it might not be a schrader
    valve that lets go!

Well normally a buggered seal in the master-cylinder will make the "grab"
point get closer to the 'bar not further out but almost all cylinders are
5/8 inch bore and the seals are largely interchangeable (and you don't need
the rest of the kit) so just look for"Honda Clutch Kit" in Ebay.

    Simple thing first.

Replace the fluid and bleed the system before you go rebuilding things.

  18. I had to let my solitary presta valve tube go, I drilled the rim to
    take a schrader tube.
