So, over to the brain's trust:

Is it TWAT (rhyming with "what")

    or TWAT rhyming with "flat"

    What's the voting ?

    Both!
No1 is a vagina or a stupid person (who doesn't know he's stupid).
No2 is never a vagina but is a really annoying, in-your-face person.

Back in the days when Trans World Airlines existed, the hosties would ask if
    you wanted tea or coffee.
Apparently it was de rigeur to ask for some TWA tea.

Yeah that's what made me ask the question in fact. My boss is a
Mancunian and corrected me when I pronounced it TWOT (which is how
everyone I know says it). I was basically wondering whether it was a
Sydney thing, or had Oz diverged. It seems Oz has a different
    pronunciation to the Poms.

I'm a bloody Englishman and if it's any help, twot and twat were synonymous
when I was in school (79-84) , it was later I discovered that twot was used
exclusively as a euphemism for a front bottom and I haven't heard it for
years and years. I would feel quite embarrassed in fact if someone used it
non-ironically. Over here it might be different and I'll use it any way you
want me to until my visa comes through.

'twot' in Australia, 'twat' for additional emphasis (as in 'complete
    twat')

I've always thought that when pronounced so that it rhymes with "that",
    Twat is a self-desriptive term.
