I don't think our government is "fuckwit" or that any government could
have reacted differently.

If you want to blame someone for the floods we've had then I'd suspect
you could start with every government since victorian times for
under-investing in our sewerage systems and the tories for flogging the
water companies off.

While I think it is remarkably fuckwitted in various respects neither of
your points were really my point.
IMHO neither of them contributed to the English flood problems either. No
sewage system is going to be designed to cope with that range of overload,
is it.

The Chinese will cope though in ways that we couldn't emulate.

Yoikes a quick google reveals their population is now 21 times the UK. 3
times the entire EU.

Come to think of it a disaster of those proportions across the EU would
probably cause financial market meltdown.

Wonder if we are better or worse able to cope with another 1953 today.
