    No one's fretting. Stop exaggerating.
I agree however actively *not* feeling sorry for them because the
"Daily Mail" tells us to feel sorry for them is just as bad. Having
been made aware, whether you respect the source or not, your reaction
    should be an honest one.

  4. Yes, and my honest reaction is, as everyone else's is, that I can't get
too worked up because I don't know these people. Now I'm aware of them,
I'm mildly interested for all sorts of reasons. However I'm not going
to assign them some extra importance simlpy because the newspapers know
that writing 'vice girl' on a front page sells copy.

Countless people have and will die in the Uk over our lifetimes. We
can't spend time honouring every one of them. Which was all the OP was
saying. Indeed it is said on ukrm every time another dead biker thread
starts. **** knows why everyone got overprotective over these 3-5 women
who seem no more worthy of our sympathy than anyone else. (Unless you
think funding their drug habits with prostitution rather than theft
singles them out for some special praise.)

Who's asking you to? If this thread is about the wonders of tabloids
maintaining circulation by tugging on the heartstrings of a soap and
reality tv-obsessed public then I can't think of anything to say other
than "Well duh". I thought it was about whether the lives of 3 whores
were any less worthwhile than any other 3 random people.

IANAC, but my pet theory is that they were stored for a while after killing.
Mr Psycho then dumped them all over 1 or 2 days, which is why they have all
    been found so quickly.

I haven't read the papers recently, but I'd be surprised if the phrase "The
new Jack the Ripper" hasn't been used yet...

In simple terms, quite probably, although it depends if the perp's
properly classed as a "serial" killer. Cases like this, with multiple
murders within a very short period, tend to be categorised as "spree"
killers, although there's an obvious cause to be considered a
"missionary" killer, which in forensic psychology tend to occur more
under the "serial" tag than the "spree". If they are a classic
"missionary" killer, there should be some attempt at communication
with the authorities; they like people to know what they are doing for
them. Of course that could have happened already, and it's being kept
quiet. I suspect it's not over yet. Criminal sociopaths are usually
highly intelligent, and adept at covering their tracks - maybe with a
good layperson's knowledge of forensics, thanks perhaps to CSI (!) and
the Discovery Channel. If they are caught alive, they'll almost
certainly be bound for a secure loony bin rather than a prison.

  12. It sounds as if you know what you're talking about, here[1].

    Care to tell us how/why?

[1] It had to happen eventually. Monkeys, typewritrers, etc.

They look(ed) a bit cheap for him. I bet none of them took credit cards or
    offered frequent fucker points.

Sky news used the phrase "Ripper Murders" as a headline earlier.

Call it an... interest. Keep on thinking (Norvern) monkeys and
typewriters for now; it's probably for the best.

I'm probably reading too many American books on the subject; it's more
    a sub-classification used by the FBI. Serial killer, definitely;
there are several other unsolved prostitute murders in Suffolk and
Norfolk going back a decade or so, which could all be related. It
would only normally be classed as a spree killer if the current 5
cases are definitely not related to earlier ones, which has yet to be
proven either way (and may take a long time, if ever). True serial
killers tend to take breaks between murders, perhaps to plan their
next move or reflect on their deeds. I think you're probably right,
in that it's a serial killer who has perhaps - as a result of
deepening mania - escalated their game, or maybe anticipated a lack of
prey in the near future (due directly to their actions; I said they're
usually intelligent) and made the most of what's been available. The
assumption is it's male; women don't usually strangle victims.
Stranglers like the feeling of power which comes from using their
hands - maybe someone who has been made to feel inadequate by women.
No. It's not completely unknown in the more religiously-motivated
killers. So far most who have been known to do so have been Septics,
though, and they're a class apart in terms of psychotic zealotry...
I read, and sometimes I take it in - I have a bit of an interest in
law, criminology and related topics. There's more to it than that,
but I'm not laying all my cards on the table at the moment. I hope
you'll understand that. Suffice to say I'm not likely to be taking an
enforced posting holiday at Her Majesty's pleasure anytime soon...
    I never left Cumbria, and I can't afford^W^W don't use them.
That sounds about right. Rather scary. I like my dog; people are
    frequently disposable, though... :)

  20. <snort> So, you'd not mind the actual *being* inadequate, then?
