pubs near Hay

  1. So I'm heading to Adelaide in October.

I am going to do it reasonably slowly, I'll have 2 days. I figure I
would do the Sydney/Wagga/Balranald/Ouyen/Pinnaroo route, and stop
    about half way.

Any good places to stay on that run? As in decent beer and good food?

Admittedly I haven't tried the longer Broken Hill way, but I can't see
I'd gain much for the extra 300km or so.

Normally I'd just ride till I'd had enough and then hunt
accommodation, but if there are any recommendations...

What, getting drunk and falling down? Personally I prefer to avoid
the falling bit, it's hell on the knees.

Outback anywhere really. and they'll be the oldest pub in town or
damn near, and the one that had decent accommodation when new.

I find Hay has a Commercial. It has a motel called Royal, but that
looks a) new and b) expensive...

I stayed at a Pub in the main street, next door to a Motel, cant remember
    the name (Commercial maybe?)
Motel was $70 per night and the Pub was $30 or $40 from memory.
    This was late 2007 anyway.
Counter meal was good, and room was great with air cond and TV, could not
    argue for the $$$.
Also had a small secure-ish carpark at the rear perfect for a bike.
    Cheers

If it hurts, you're not doing it properly.

Maybe more practice is called for.

    Beer?

Fairfax has a good travel website. Town listings with
    hotel/motel/caravan park listings etc.

When you're in Adelaide, visit ridingsa.com to organise a ride.

Won't have the time alas. Just going to meet up with a couple of
people and then go to Cobdogla.

Of course anyone who wants to ride to CObdogla on the Sunday 5th Oct
to see the Humphrey pump and steam museum could come along. Not a fun
twisty ride but a great destination.

    Bloody 'ell! Is that possible?

Some twenty four years ago, I stopped there.

Being a bikie, I had to drink in the back bar with the
    ....err...indigenous folk.

They were OK but the lot in the front bar were seriously strange. :-(
