    Are they any good?

Probably a bit late now, I've just got 3 for the Armstrong for £9
    delivered.

Although, that it's taken to chewing up cambelts on the eve of 3500 mile
trip should be more of a worry.

Dunno, but someone with an enquiring mind on a forum reckons, after
extensive research, that Putoline TTX synthetic 2-stroke oil is the
canine's gonads. I used a variety of filters on the Nordwest motors from
Halfords to something I got at a Renault dealer as the '5' used the same
filter. None exploded and they were never on long enough before changing
    to be an issue.
Sounds good, though I suppose they could be fakes.

Nasty. How is it tensioned on those - automatic or manual? The Gilera
has a sort of manual one that uses a big spring, but you have to check
it occasionally and release the securing nut to allow excess slack to be
taken up IYSWIM. Any washers or guides on the crank pinion that could
have been mislaid on re-assembly by a previous owner?

Manual - I've got a replacement idler [1] and bearing [2] for the
    tensioner.

The real problem is probably the crank pulley - it has guides which are
easily distorted if a three legged puller is used. I can certainly see
    they're distorted.

Fortunately, it seems they are easily straightened. Which is just as
well as a replacement pulley is £85 +vat. It has a slight oil leak, I
hope the pulley isn't damaged and is shredding the seal. I suspect my
clumsy overfilling is the real cause.

I'm waiting on the arrival of a coupe of seals, gaskets and the proper
puller (M30x1.5) - managed to get one on ebay for a tenner.

    [1] £16 instead of £60

Hmm. Never heard of Putoline making oil filters, no mention of oil
filters on their website, & Googling for "Putoline oil filter" just
seems to return ebay links & pages that don't actually have anything
about Putoline on them. All of which screams fake to me. I'd call/email
    them before risking it.
    Oh dear, not good.

It was a chap from the MT owners club who has a stock of them - they do
have the pressure relief valve which the cheap copies don't, apparently.

I'm hoping it's repairable without recourse to buying a new pulley, but
at least the parts are available if necessary.

Oh, and I'll be taking a stock of cambelts to Norway. Fortunately
they're (a) cheap and (b) don't smash valves and pistons when they break.

    That's a big help.
    a) is good, b) even better - unlike a Bialbero.

Do you need to take a flywheel generator rotor off to get at the belt? I
never went on a continental trip on the Morini without taking the
flywheel puller and a spare belt (which stows neatly inside the headlamp
shell) despite never having had one break and hearing little talk of it
happening. Whereas on the Nordwest (which is prone to cambelt failure if
not changed on an age basis particularly if left standing in a cold
garage) I rode it to Milan without - though the primary aim of the
mission was to come back with a puller and a belt, so I was happier on
    the way back.
